I hope you know what's involved with de-clawing cats, how cruel and unnecessary it is, and that many non-3rd world nations have already outlawed it. One day even here in the USA it will be outlawed when enough veterinarians protest and refuse to do it.

http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm

...and many other websites out there explain the procedure. It's more than just removing the claw or like trimming their claws. The entire last digit of the toe is removed. It's like removing your fingertips at the first joint. The cat is also helpless and defenseless thereafter and forever.

We have 3 cats, none de-clawed, and not one piece of furniture has been damaged, either in the RV or in our home.

Please rethink mutilating your cats.

You read someone the riot act about declawing their cats??? Now someone could read you the riot act about letting your cats outside but this forum is not a discussion for that now is it????

If you want to discuss declawing, start another thread. These are off topic.

Spot jumped up on the bathroom sink this morning and hurt his leg again. We decided not to give him the painkiller, since he fights so hard, and also so that he'll realize his leg is not all better. He's doing ok, being quiet, and wandering about the house inspecting the Christmas decorations. Occasionally he makes it clear it's time for one of us to stop what we're doing and hold him for a while. Oof, but a 14 pound cat on your chest is hard to maintain for near the length of time he'd like.

Alex is off the Clavamox, and we'll just watch his litter box trips. Meanwhile, he's eating the 9% protein cat foods and seems to be ok with most of them. The only one he flat does not like is the one the vet provided. Good. The commercial stuff's cheaper.

We chose all to be wheat, corn or soy free, just in case that's what's making Spot's skin crawl. Won't know for several weeks if it makes a difference.

Mama Doe came up this morning, with all three of her babies -- the twins of last year and this year's doe. We found some lettuce that was a bit wilted, but she was happy to take it.

I see it's my turn to be the cat pillow. Later, y'all.

Wow you are so busy [emoticon] I pick Tulip up today from the vet, and I will get pics of her. I January we have to have the rest of the back leg amputated off, because she is putting to much weight on it right now and it is very painful for her. We are in this for the long haul, but she and all our babies are worth it.

We also need new pics from you [emoticon]

We got our first cat Hershey from a shelter in Florida. He was a pure bred chocolate siemese cat. Who ever turned him in said it was litter box problems. They also had him declawed on all four. We had to get him. We knew he would never be an outside cat. The problem with the declawing is now you have to try different litters cause too big pieces can get caught in the paws and the same with too small.
Some stories about how smart this cat was:
Thom was performing in a play at the local community theater. One day he came home from work a little early and told Hershey not to wake him before 5 pm. Right before the alarm went off Hershey was right there tapping and pushing on his face to let him know it was time to get up. Thom thought it was just coinsincedence and thought nothing of it. The next day the same thing except this time the time he requested was at 5:15 pm. Well, at 5:15 Hershey was right there tapping and pushing to wake him up. Thom then decided that it was just a little too weird and never asked the cat to do that again [emoticon]
Thom got a job that moved him first up to Michigan (I followed after my contract work was done). He was staying with his mom and dad while he traveled. They were watching the cat while he was on the road. His mom noticed that even if Thom did not tell anyone that he was on his way home that Hershey knew. He would sit in a certain spot on the front window sill. His mom took to calling him "The Devil Cat".

Painkillers are problematic with animals in general, that way... you can't tell them not to run around when they feel better. Worse with cats, I think, as they seem to regard vertical movement in the same way that they regard horizontal. It's like telling you or me not to walk across the room to expect them to stay on the floor.

I remember my vet telling me to keep Sput from jumping on and off things when she hurt her shoulder. I asked him how he thought I could do that and we had a good laugh. She did eventually heal up... Actually I think it was when I brought her up here and they were locked in one room for a few weeks with just a bed to climb on and off, nothing higher.

Hershey sounds like Klaus mit der Krallen and Alex. They both could tell time. Even knew when the weekend came and didn't try to get us out of bed so early. I had a cat in college, who moved in with my folks when I left for active duty. Each time I came home, she knew for hours before I got there, waiting patiently on my old bed.

Today was warm and a very thick fog stayed in place most of the day. It was a bit strange, seeing so much fog while running around in a tee shirt.

Spot went outside when the UPS guy was delivering a box. He didn't stay out log. Though he did come running when I called, he's still favoring the leg, but I think he'll heal up fine without further intervention.

Mama Doe and the baby came right up to me this evening. I fed them both the last of some whole grain bread, and the baby quite liked it, even pushing Mama Doe to get it.

Time to cut the fudge. Later, y'all.

Spot tried to climb the Christmas tree twice, once getting halfway up before we yelled at him. He's still thinking he'll try again. We have the kitty safe ornaments on the bottom third, as usual, but he seems to be focused on the tree itself so far. This could be an exciting Christmas season...

Still cloudy and raining, much to our delight, but it is keeping the deer down in the meadow out of sight, and both cats are determined to sit on me, which slowed down my ability to finish editing WLToo's second book. But I persisted, and it's done. He has it back for whatever he does next, then I'll either read it again, or he'll prepare it for uploading to Amazon's Kindle site. It should be published by Christmas.

I need cocoa. Later, y'all.

Now that the tree is decorated, Spot's not showing any interest in it. Perhaps the new has worn off already. However, just in case, we did not use any of our breakable decorations this year.

Today was Advantage Multi day, so the guys are just sleeping. Well, Alex did make it clear he wanted to sample the pastrami that WLToo just pulled out of the smoker, then went right back to sleep.

Otherwise, it's a quiet day. I'm resting my brain, after a last minute crash edit on WLToo's second book, which is now uploaded and for sale on Amazon Kindle. If you like science fiction, take a look at Scout Force, his first one, and First Command, a sequel. Both have the first 10% available as a free preview to whet your appetite - or not.

I think it's time for a nap, with two kitties. Later, y'all.
