Spot wants to play with his humans early in the morning, then again late in the evening, and always on the walk back from the mailbox. Big, goofy guy with a delighted look when he plays. Appears to have broken a fang, though, so we'll take him to the vet tomorrow.
Alex is feeling better on his all gooshy food diet. He's figured out that Spot is not as fast, so Alex' idea of playing with Spot is to get Spot to chase him. Off Alex goes, out of Spot's reach -- it seems to work, though. They both seem to like it.
Big increase in the hummingbird population around the feeder. I guess the late summer, plus the drought, plus the extreme heat, has dried up all other nectar sources. I've even seen them drinking from the swimming pool.
Meanwhile, we have at least two barn swallow pairs that appear to be nesting a third time -- or maybe a young pair is trying it for the first or second time. Didn't see that last year, when the flying insects were plentiful. Curious.
Killed a large black scorpion in the house last night, so I guess it's time for another Raid Max Repellent application.
Yesterday, I was at the refrigerator and happened to look out the window. Mama Doe was looking in the door with a "Can I have that?" look on her face. So I gave her the last bit of lettuce, which she shared with her fawn. Hadn't seen her do that before. She gets excited when I bring out the carrots, but refuses to touch cabbage. No matter, I toss the leavings into the "compost" pile and the rabbit eats them. We haven't composted a thing this year - it's all devoured by some kind of wildlife.
Time to get a couple things done. Later, y'all.

No, Susan, nothing. I'm guessing either she hasn't seen the cat again, or she has and it's not got a short tail and mustache.

Why dont you put some flyers around the gated community or try and find the maintence crew or security and ask if they have seen Bobbi? Cathie

Did that, Cathie. Nothing.
Today was the first day not to hit 100+ in a very, very long time. Spot and Alex really enjoyed laying on the porch and napping. Spot's tooth isn't in too bad a shape, only the tip broken off and not into the pulp, so the vet will just watch it for now.
The tiniest hummingbird has a green body, red head, buff throat and breast, and is not afraid of us. We get quite a show from it. The larger hummingbirds are more cautious around us, and won't feed when we're sitting on the porch.
The deer herd hangs out under the largest live oak below the swimming pool. Mama Doe came up this morning for a bit of lettuce I left out there.
Otherwise, it's been very quiet.

Our nephew stayed the weekend. Spot was in kitty heaven. I'm thinking Spot had a pet boy before he was abandoned, from the way he acted with Nephew. When he comes in from evening patrol and finds Nephew gone, I don't think he'll be very happy. He does like us a lot, but he really likes Nephew. He'd like Nephew to stay here, too.
Meanwhile, a fire got started over at one of the lakeside parks this afternoon, so we were on fire watch for several hours. The wind was from that direction, and some of the ash flew over us. If the wind gusts were just so, the fire could have jumped the lake and started elsewhere. Luckily, didn't happen.
Alex had his evening treat, and now he's trying to help type. Guess I'd better go fuss over himmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

For goodness sake Wanderlost be careful, it seems like a large % of TX is on fire and they are really bad ones. Make sure you have a plan to evacuate if you have to. Love your post and would miss them if something happened to you and yours.
