Days are getting shorter.... I suppose they could be heading out to wherever they winter. Seems a little early, but it is hard to imagine why else they'd leave a good food/water source.

We have a new kitty routine, so that Alex has enough food in him that he isn't so much of a pest. Dawn or thereabouts, breakfast. Mid-morning, he's still finishing up breakfast. Lunchtime, he and Spot both get treats. Mid-afternoon, he's starting up his pest routine, but dinnertime is not until 1700; if he starts earlier than 1500, may as well give him a few treats to tide him over to dinner. They both get evening treats.
With this program in place the last week and a half, Alex has gained back the weight he lost when we didn't realize he could no longer eat the dry stuff. His coat is still a tad dull, but has been ever since the skunking and resultant baths -- and he is occasionally a bit aromatic when it's humid. I expect his coat will recover soon.
Spot likes his treats and some of the gooshy foods, but isn't as demanding. He'd rather just graze on the dry kibble. Unlike Alex, he still is not interested in people food, thank goodness. The new Spot routine is the red laser chase in the evening. Five minutes or less at full tilt, and he's ready for bed.
A wasp was walking around on the feeder a few minutes ago, until a green hummingbird made it very clear the wasp was not welcome. Territorial little critters...

I've read the thread and am so very sorry to hear about Bobbi. I had a cat once named Sapheria who just up and disappeared. I never knew what became of her. I hope your Bobbi returns to you one day.
From what I read about Spot, I think he may have a bit of Siamese in him. They are very talkative cats. They love people and want to be near them a lot, and they talk all the time. Very intelligent cats too. I have two of them, Lewis and Clark, and they talk to me all the time. My other two cats aren't chatty much unless they are hungry.
In an imperfect world, all things are relevant.

Actually, neither Alex or Spot are all that talkative. Spot's a triller, though not to the extent Bobbi is/was, and usually only talks when he wants to play. Kinda funny to hear such a big, goofy cat trill, but it so fits his personality.
Alex is talking less and less as he gets older. He just climbs up on the chair side table and pats me on the face. Since that's his standard technique, I have to guess what he wants.
Spot has learned that he can stick his paw through the back of my chair and bop me in the backside. That's his "play with me" signal. Wish he'd just trill and bounce around, but noooo, he's gotta do the direct contact thing. And he's picky, too. If I get up and use the red laser dot, he'll only play with me. Can't hand it off to Rodney; Spot will immediately lose interest, and vice versa. Funny guy.
He's been trying to chew and claw the leather chairs lately, so we have bubble wrap and painter's tape on them, with the occasional application of spray water when he doesn't listen. His teeth seem fine, and he actually chews his dry kibble, instead of the typical kitty gulp and swallow, so I'm not sure what set off the chewing.
Recently, I saw him trying to chew a shoe, and then the cocktail table corner. So I bought a small bag of rawhide chews, and he thinks they're really nice smelling toys. He's tried to chew one a little, but I guess he just likes the taste of a piece of commercially stained leather.
So today I'll go out to the garage and find my leather scraps. If he's happy chewing on a piece of leather, maybe he'll stop damaging the furniture.
Well, it's time to Advantage Multi the guys. Later, y'all.

We got a phone call today. A woman says a cat she thinks looks like Bobbi has been hanging around her area for a couple of weeks. She hasn't noticed if the cat has a short tail, and will call us back as soon as she sees it again.
Given the straight line distance between our location and hers, it's possible that Bobbi could be alive and hanging out over there. I hope we hear from the lady soon.

We heard a whack, followed by another. When we finally found the source, it was a roadrunner pecking on the sliding glass door. When he realized we were watching, he strolled to the other sliding glass door and pecked on it. When he saw me peek around the corner, he strolled away.
The hummingbirds no longer fly away when we're on the north porch. I guess they've figured out that we're the nectar source.
It's mostly clear and hot. It's been mostly clear and hot for so long that our weather folks have run out of creative ways to say "clear and hot." Back when we were stationed at Fort Hood in the 1970s, one weatherman started saying it in different languages. At least that was interesting, and we learned to say "clear and hot" in many tongues.
Anyway, it's too hot for Spot, and Alex thinks it's great. But we limit their porch time, even when there's a breeze, since that breeze feels like a furnace.
Nothing from the lady about Bobbi. I hope it's just because she hasn't seen the cat.

She's in a gated community. Can't go over during the day, 'cause Bobbi just goes into the shade and stays quiet until it cools off, "cool" meaning the night or very early morning temps are under 90. Best times to call her are after the community's closed its gates, and the lady was hesitant to give us access until she's seen the cat again. So we're kinda stuck until she calls.

Spot has an ouchy on his nose. I'm guessing he escorted the neighbor's black cat off our property again. What's interesting is that Spot follows the cat to our fence, but does not go through the fence after him. Nope, this is Spot's territory, and he's not invading black kitty's territory -- but he'd like the same courtesy...
It was dead still this morning, and so quiet that I could actually hear the motor boats on the lake. The prevailing winds here do not come from the lake during boating season, so I've not heard the boats since we moved here. Had an enjoyable sit on the north porch, with tea, cats, hummingbirds, barn swallows, and boats.
Got through to one of my friends in Virginia. His house and office shook pretty good during the earthquake, but no damage. Now Irene is dumping rain, but not much wind yet.
I sure hope everyone stays safe, but with that much water coming into a saturated area, flooding is inevitable.
Ah, well, time to get stirring and do stuff before the high heat takes over.
