You better be bringing a white flag and kitty treats. They are not happy with the two of you off gallavanting, while they were in the hoosegau. Im glad you like fur because it might be flying. Please fill us in on the homecoming and pics.Cathie

Brought the kitties home this morning. Spot was growling when we left him there, and was growling as they brought him out to us. I’m guessing he was not happy about the clinic’s resident cats sprawling around the reception area. Otherwise, he didn’t make a sound coming home, or we didn’t hear him for Bobbi’s and Alex’ constant comments. Alex’ comments are fairly simple, “Let me ooouuuttt!” Bobbi’s are more complicated, but I believe they’re obscene. She is very, very opinionated.

We brought all three into the house and opened the carriers. Zoom! All three headed out on inspection. Food dishes full? Check. Bathroom water dish in place? Check. Hearth water fountain running? Check. Litter boxes clean? Check. Kitty tree in place? Check. Three humans in place? Check. Wait! What? Oh, yeah, one of the regular visitors. Check. Kitty toys in place? Check. Favorite napping spots in place? Check. Window seat viewing available? Check.

Once it was clear everyone was happy, we let them go outside. All three sniffed and checked all around the house, running back inside every few minutes to be sure we were still here. At precisely 1100, all three were standing in the kitchen, waiting for their regular lunchtime treats. Got treats? Check. Back to normal.

Bobbi grew significantly in the last three weeks. Not traipsing around outside all day long, so maybe her energy re-focused into growing. She just might be a nice size cat after all.

Spot got a bit fat, but he’ll lose that when he’s back to his normal patrol. Right now, he’s favoring his right foot a little; I guess he landed hard on it as he ran about checking on things.

At the moment, they’re all trying to get us to open the gooshy food. Nope. Not getting the gooshy food until dinner time. Not even three sets of kitty eyes staring at me will work. I’ve got way too much cat experience. Nope. Not gonna happen. Dinner time’s 2.5 hours away. Hmmm, Bobbi’s giving me the stink eye. Tough. She may be stubborn, but she’s not in my league.

Spot just strolled by, not favoring his leg. Maybe he’s just stiff. Getting a drink from the water fountain. It’s so cute, how he sticks his chin right into the water.

Got quiet again. Seems they’ve all gone back outside. The barn swallows are flying madly about, feeding the first hatches. Don’t know how many chicks there are yet, but I think at least four per nest. Another nest is being built, so we may have many more than 23 barn swallows later this year. Good. Last year we had practically zero flying bugs bothering us. Hope the swallows do as good a job this year.

Time to go do something -- and it's still not time for the gooshy food...

Spot let me comb him today, as he lounged on the cat tree. He appears to have finished blowing his coat at the vet's, since not much came off. He's been hanging out on the south porch, in a rocking chair, letting the breeze keep him cool.

He's started purring, so I guess we're forgiven.

Spot was napping in a chair on the north porch this morning. I closed the door, preparing to go drop off the weekly recycles. He looked up with a worried look on his face. I told him we'd be right back. As we drove out, he had come around to the south porch, and was sitting by the door there, still with the worried look.

We were gone less than 30 minutes. I opened the doors, and no Spot anywhere. I looked out to the fence line, to see if he was on patrol, but didn't see him. OK, he's around somewhere.

WLToo decided to pull the lawn tractor out of the garage. As soon as it roared to life, Spot appeared from out of nowhere, running into the house. He saw me and immediately stopped running, ambling over with a nonchalant attitude. Snicker.

We had what may be a breakthrough in the litter box issues. Spot actually used the Litter Robot day before yesterday. We praised him mightily. If we can get Spot and Bobbi to use the Robot, we'll only have to shovel Alex' leavings.

At this point in his life, I kinda doubt we'll get Alex into the Robot, which really amazes me, considering he's never had an issue with any form of litter box. But he's just not having anything to do with the Robot. Well, he's such a good boy, at 15 years old, he can use a regular box.

It's a very quiet day here in the Hill Country. Still not raining, and we desperately need it. Spot has taken up residence on one of the mesh chaise lounges by the pool, where the breeze cools him all the way around. Bobbi's asleep under the sofa, and Alex is asleep on the sofa. We humans are still recovering from our colds, so we just may join the nappers.

This retired life is hard -- hard, I say! [emoticon]

Lucky vet, got all that good fur!

Interesting that you've had such a hard time with the automatic litter system. I found the Littermaid to be highly unreliable, but both cats loved it from the instant they saw it and would get in there just to make it go, leave, and run back to watch it work.

We've had cool weather here for days, but only trace amounts of rain. Still hoping, though. But for us, rain at this time of year would be unusual.

It's the Litter Robot, Susan. Our third Littermaid died a while back, and since Spot was afraid of it, we didn't replace it with a fourth. Besides, Alex was just standing straight and peeing on the tines and the controls, which was a bear to clean, so we went with the Litter Robot. He could just stand and let go, no mess, no fuss. Except he won't use it, so Alex has a tall standard litter box, and he's happy.

The Litter Robot has Spot running in to watch it, too. Now that he's actually used it at least once, he just might decide it's worth using, just so he can watch it go. Hope so.

Spot and Bobbi went for a walk with me this morning. First time since we got home that I was well enough to go down the drive for the morning paper and to open the gate. Spot tried to trip me on the way down, weaving in and out of my legs. Then we played attack the newspaper all the way back. Bobbi dashed along for a bit, then saw a birdie she just had to stalk. Spot joined her at one point, and I got back to the house with myself and paper intact.

At the moment, we have eight baby barn swallows screaming for food, four on each porch. Several of last year's hatches came along, and they are both building their own nests and helping feed these babies. We have to clean a lot of bird poo off each porch, but we have very few flying insects. I like these birds...

A young black cat strolled across the lawn and under the pool. Spot either didn't see him, or assumed it was Alex, because he didn't even spoil his relax on the north porch.

WLToo walked to the pool edge, looked down at the kitty, and said, "You're not welcome here." The cat ran toward a neighbor's property. I wonder if she has a third cat.

Meanwhile, the critter that likes to poo right around the house left a big one on top of a pool skimmer cover. It eats berries and such, mostly, judging from all the juniper berries I washed away. It's not a raccoon - wrong kind of poo. Likely not a fox, for same reason. The poo's very granular, light brown, and dissolves like dust when hit with a water stream. It's still a puzzle.

Advantage Multi day. Makes everyone feel kinda punky, so they sleep most of the day.

Yesterday might not have been the rapture, but three of the four baby barn swallows on the north porch decided it was a good day to start flying.

Meanwhile, the humans are still off-loading L'Andante, so she can go to the repair shop tomorrow for the dash air conditioner repair.

Sigh, break's over, back to work.

Hi Wander [emoticon] We are finally here in Texas, have internet finally, and came to check on your family. Sounds like all the babies, mom & dad are settled in from your trip [emoticon].
Our trip from AZ to TX was eventful with the 3 babies, but we all made it safe & sound.
Take care and we need updated pics of the babies please....
