Thwarted by clouds again - no Leonids. Oh, well.
Cousin took granddaughter to Austin, where son lives. Daughter is driving in tonight and she and daughter will stay with son's family. Cousin and spouse will have some peace and quiet in their FW now.
But daughter is bringing their other dog, so Spotacus will have to put up with two dogs wandering around his property. As long as they don't bother him, he'll be ok.
WLToo is smoking the turkey today, so there won't be a mad rush tomorrow. Smells wonderful out there. Even has Spotacus curious.
The gathering will occur in early afternoon, and we'll start serving as soon as all the foods bring brought are heated up. Our sole job this year is the turkey, roasted sweet potatoes, and shredded brussel sprouts sauted in butter and balsamic vinegar. Nice to have a low stress Thanksgiving.
Y'all have a great and safe Thanksgiving.

Those rotters came, ate, and left all the leftovers with us!!! We'll be packaging up most of that turkey and freezing it and serving it at our Christmas party.
All those roasted sweet potato puree will be going into pies, pancakes, and some will go into the freezer.
The brussel sprouts made two meals, and they're gone.
Cousin went visiting all day, leaving three dogs here. She gave us a schedule for letting the dogs out to potty. But at the first let out, they didn't want to go back inside. So, per her directions, we left the door with the doggie ramp open, and they came and went all day. What mellow dogs they are, so very well behaved.
Spotacus stayed inside most of the day, but now that Cousin is back, he feels it's safe to go on patrol.
We made bone broth with the turkey carcass in our Instant Pot. Smells wonderful and tastes even better. Took less than two hours per batch, which beats all day simmering big time.
Timer beeped. Time to strain broth. Later, y'all.

Sounds like you had a good Thanksgiving. We had bacon wrapped turkey of course. The usual sides. We have a version of the Instant Pot (different brand) and it works great. When it comes to leftovers I'm grateful for the freezer. Good man, Spotacus. You know the "streets" when it comes to dogs.

Two nights in a row, we got a great view of the international space station. And tomorrow should be another one.
Tomorrow I turn 65. Wouldn't bother me, except I had to sign up for Medicare. While that part wasn't particularly difficult, I have to change my current Federal Employee Health Benefits to another kind that meshes with Medicare. More number crunching over the next week. Between that and doing Mom's, makes my brain hurt...
WLToo and I are also doing side by side laptop revisions of his latest book, and I'm convinced the version he had me edit is not the version we're comparing. Means I'll have to go through it again by myself before he can actually publish. Since the target date is the first full week in December, means this week is a real brain strain.
Good thing we have a cat who knows exactly when we need affection. Spotacus = break time. As he ages, he needs more and more affection. It's a good thing.
Back to editing. Later, y'all.

Medicare and insurance synchronization is an exercise that always reminds me of the Chinese finger puzzles. The harder you strain at it the more frustrating it gets. Spotacus needs to give his mom a hug.

The dogs left this morning with Cousin. Tall Friend came home last night; Short Friend will be back next Wednesday. Things are gradually returning to Spotacus' normal, but I expect he'll be jumpy for a while yet.
Several young bucks have taken shelter in our meadow. If they can avoid being poached, they might sire some good looking fawns.
Past supper time for humans and cat. Later, y'all.

I'd love a normal routine, Magnus, but that's not what usually goes on around here...
We're crashing on the final edit for WLToo's next book. I thought we were done, then asked a timeline and sequencing question. That resulted in drawing up a timeline of major and minor events (why hadn't he done that long ago?), moving a number of passages around as a result, some added text, and then an edit of the movement and additions.
I'll be done tomorrow. One way or another, I'll be done tomorrow. Then it's back to him for formatting and uploading. It's a good book. I just want to be sure his ratings don't go down because of sequencing or grammar, or too much white space in the e-book version.
So while I've been sitting at the island, typing away, Spotacus has moved into my chair. He gets positively grumpy when I move him. Silly hooman, comfy chairs are for cats...

Of course, routines are only for cats or so I'm told. Same with comfy chairs.

Passed the book back to WLToo. Sigh. That was the most complicated editing job I've done in years. But it's done, and now we can get on with the business of decorating the tree, cleaning house, and preparing for all the Christmas company.
It snowed in the Hill Country (and in San Antonio). Thursday evening, as we headed home from the big city, the rain kept getting fluffier and fluffier. Honest to Santa - it was snow, coming down so thick that it was very difficult to see. Now add the fact that it only snows in San Antonio once every 25 years or so, and you have the ingredients for instant chaos.
Yup. The big hills we could have traversed just fine, if not for the people who panicked, stopped at the bottom of the hill, and then naturally couldn't get up the next one. We pulled off the main highway and went a back road home. Still took us three hours to get home, but we did so with zero issues. Next morning, woke up to 3-4" of snow and ice. Good thing we didn't have to go anywhere. Most of it melted today, and it was a gorgeous day.
Spotacus went outside several times, for five minutes or less. He simply could not figure out what was going on out there. He's turning into a pretty good inside cat, actually, except when he wants to play while I'm working... How very "cat" of him.
The deer herd seemed rather puzzled over the snow. I did notice some of the younger ones pawing at it, then bouncing around -- I think they were playing. It was cute.
Spotacus wants me to go to bed, so he can take my chair. Night, y'all.
