Took a break from packing and canned 18 pints of apricot nectar from one picking. Mom's trees are so loaded that neighbors have had their fill and even the birds can't put a dent into them. Hauling a cooler full to family and friends.
Meanwhile, now that the apartment is happening, I'm getting pecked to death by ducks...family keeps texting questions I don't have an answer to yet. Sheesh, people, let her sign for the place before asking how many outlets each room has...
At least I pay no attention to texts when on the road, so there's some peace coming tomorrow.
WLToo said all the barn swallows have fledged. They also ganged up on Spotacus and drove him out of his favorite porch chair and into the house. Poor guy; all he wanted was a nice nap.
Next input will be from beside my swimming pool. Later, y'all.

Looking forward to the greeting you'll get when you walk in. Aren't you glad that Petfinder failed to find him another home???

Yes, Magnusfide, I am glad PetFinder didn't find him another home. He made his own place here, on the property, in the RVs, and in our hearts.
Got home last Friday. Spotacus was nowhere to be found. He finally turned up after dinner. Seems he'd crawled under WLToo's recliner and went to sleep. When he realized I was home, he plopped himself on my chest and purred so loud it was hard to hear any conversations. He was back to his normal routine the next day, except each time I sat down, he was in my lap. Sweet boy -- wants to share all of his shedding hair with me...he's in the middle of blowing his entire coat, so the Roomba is having a time keeping up.
Saturday, Mom signed for the apartment. For whatever reason, the manager decided to show her another one that had just been vacated. Mom fell in love. Unfortunately, there's water damage and mold that have to be fixed, so that apartment won't be available for at least 4 months. Mom decided she could live with the current apartment's color scheme (ugly beige) until the bigger apartment is available, then move. So the move in July is happening on schedule. Doing the happy dance here, even though we won't be through with Mom's place. Still have to have the estate sale/auction, then the property sale. But I don't have to live there full time, anymore -- driving back and forth is fine.
Leoghaire and her fawn came up yesterday. Her fawn is nowhere near as bold as Leoghaire was. Cute, though.
Meanwhile, WLToo is in full combat with various critters that think eating his tomatoes is a good idea. He's got the critter cam and a movement detection device down there. When the MDD goes off, he grabs the pellet rifle and dissuades the critter (usually squirrels) from persisting. They'll quit in a week or so, when the tomatoes stop producing, but it's the principle and all that...
One of the recent barn swallow fledglings either damaged its left wing or was born with it. Couldn't fly and was running around on the porch. The older birds kept it company and fed it, but in the end it simply couldn't survive. Pity. The other birds keeping watch over it didn't even move away when we walked around it, which was impressive. We literally got a look at barn swallows from less than a foot away -- such beautiful birds.
Just realized we had no katydids this year. I wasn't here to notice the lack of katydid schrieks, but just realized there are no streaks downs the windows that are the usual katydid sign.
Found more native plants that are monarch butterfly attractants, so when I get home, we're going fullbore on getting the butterfly/hummingbird garden built. Those monarchs need those plants during both migration seasons, and if we have blooms all year, some just might hang around.
But for now, I have to pack for tomorrow's trip back to Mom's. Later, y'all.

Back at Mom's, getting serious about packing. The other siblings will arrive next week, and the week after that, I'll be home for good. Happy dance...
Nephew is here, doing a lot of general fixing and sprucing up. Brought his dog along. She's very sweet and normally lives with cats, so when WLToo arrives with Spotacus, it won't bother her at all. Remains to be seen how Spotacus will react to being in the same house with a dog. I'll have WLToo bring a couple gallons of Wee Cleaner, just in case Spotacus expresses himself by peeing on stuff.
As befits summer here, last night was a feast of fireworks, lightning, thunder, sideways rain, winds, and pea sized hail. We got 1.5" of wet out of it, so the buffalo grass and assorted other plant life are very happy today. Early this morning was absolutely lovely. This afternoon, it's hot and muggy, which is not even slightly normal here. If the wind was blowing, it wouldn't matter, but as it's calm, it's not an outside kind of day for me. Makes me really miss my swimming pool...
Well, puppy wants to play. She keeps nudging my leg. Later, y'all.

Two more weeks and you're done with it - I'd do a happy dance as well. Leave Spotacus' crate open as a refuge from the dog. Be careful going in and out so Spotacus doesn't escape. My two cents to keep Spotacus close to you.

Magnusfide, I expect Spotacus to hang with me. Veeerrrry closely. WLToo said Spotacus misses me a lot.
Packed the artwork Mom's taking along, and then my back started calling me names. Taking a break, then I'll pack all the books by a certain author, and that will probably be the most I can accomplish today.
Nephew's puppy has eaten a couple of pigeons. They're not real smart, apparently, and she's fast. Probably explains why she's slow to eat her kibble...
Time to pack books. Later, y'all.

Wpw. feathers, beaks and claws will be a challenge for her to digest. Pigeons are rather dumb, though, as far as birds go. Some dogs are hunters. Our min pin is kept on a short leash, for that reason. She ate (and digested) a whole lot of lizards before we stpped letting her off leash. Nope, she never got salmonella!

Well, we got her moved. She's been in the apartment since Monday, and I've been driving down there daily to help unpack. Took Thursday and Friday off to do my own stuff, and WLToo and I went to see "Dunkirk." Good movie.
Tomorrow, Mom and I go back to the old homestead. She has one last medical appointment up there, and we're returning a bunch of stuff she doesn't need but insisted on packing and now knows she doesn't need it. She did forget some small but important items, and we have to clear some other stuff before the auctioneers take over. They'll organize everything left for the auction, thankfully, so this will be the next to last time I go up there. Last time will be auction day in September, when all the stuff and the property get auctioned.
Meanwhile, Spotacus has been exceptionally affectionate. His poor skin is so twitchy that he's been pulling his hair out, so last night I rubbed bacon grease on the worst spots. I figured it would help ease whatever's bothering him, give him a bit of digestible fat as he licks it off, and maybe will help the twitchies over time. He's much happier today, so WLToo will keep it up while I'm gone. I have no idea if he likes bacon or not -- but it's pure meat fat, so while he might not like it, it won't hurt him.
Leoghaire spent some time hanging around the porch yesterday. Haven't seen her fawn since I got back, but she's here.
The barn swallows have departed. I miss them already. Love those little gossips. Still have a healthy hummingbird population to watch and feed, and I should be here for the monarch butterfly migration, whenever that is.
Our neighbor with the llamas and guinea fowl has the house up for sale. I don't think the critters will convey...
L'Andante (our 2004 Itasca Sunrise) is still at Texas Custom Coach. Hope to get her back soon enough to run up to northern Wisconsin and visit Tall and Short Friends at the park they're volunteer rangering at, then head back here in time for the homestead auction. But if not, oh well.
The hot tub should be ready now. Time to get the back muscles throroughly pummeled. Later, y'all.
