We finally made it! Lessons Learned last night: Make sure that you have at least one full propane tank before a cold rainy/snowy night. CHECK (I had to switch tank selection around 0130, thankfully I replaced the empty one before bedding down.) Make sure that when dry camping that you unplug from the tow vehicle incase the battery drains all the way. CHECK (I woke up @ 0630 freezing cold, the deep cycle battery had drained all the way down. Granted the heater ran from 2000 until around 0615. All in all great job battery.) So over all it was a great trip, and thanks to some careful planning and A LOT of research, fairly pleasant. I am happy that we brought the extra propane tank, and the 8k was well worth every penny. 1250 miles in two and a half days, two vehicles, two small kids, a six month pregant wife, my heavy Chevy (weighed in at 14,953 lbs full rig with everything in it) getting around 10-11 MPG, a lot of truckers on the cb, and one happy dad later, the Miller's are finally safe in Kansas, again! 2011 Bullet Premier 31BHPR 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD No Mission Too Difficult No Sacrifice Too Great DUTY FIRST! 31BHPR Mods |

NETANDDAVID, Your posts have been great! It’s been quite an adventure for you and your family. Now that you have arrived, I am interested to know how the thermal package works for you. We will be heading to LBL and camping on Kentucky Lake for the week of Thanksgiving and I'm sure it will be needed. Temps can be around freezing this time of year and I’m planning to set the thermostat at 68 and use a radiant heater. Does anybody have any experience using the heater to know how long a 20 bottle of propane will last? Happy camping, Kevin "Onward thru the fog!" ![]() |

I'm not familiar with how long the propane will last, others here will answer that. I do know that we use our electric heater (1500 W) and it entirely heats our 28RLPR, I also direct it toward the bedroom. A larger TT with the bunkhouse may take two heaters? Will you have electric hookup? Many nights at freezing the propane furnace never comes on with the heat being set at 65. Have a great trip. |

Last year a 20lb tank lasted us about 1 weekend for 2 nights of heating and 2 daya of cooking. I only ran heat in the evening but I kept it warm around 70-72. This year I've only used a 1500w heater pointed to the bunks and it's kept the entire trailer warm without having to use any propane at all. I'm still using the same 20lb tank I started with in the spring. Keep in mind though that with the heater at full, we trip the circuit box much more often if we aren't careful. We turn the heater off if we need to use the microwave and use ga for hot water instead of electricity. 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali ~ 2010 Keystone Premier 31BHPR ~ Sold: 2009 Tango 289BH ProPride 3P Hitch ~ RV Modifications ~ Gear & Accessories ~ Road Trip 2010 ![]() |

Fortunately the temps will be in the mid 60's during the day and mid 40's during the night here in MA. I will winterize after that trip ![]() Greg and J Ben - Yellow Lab. Yes, we'll have shore power I just want the propane furnace to keep any plumbing/holding tanks from freezing up. We have the same unit so the radiant oil heater will keep us warm topside. |

Since our TT is the shorter one we should be fine with the radiant heater and a little supplemental using the furnace. I want to make sure there are no freezing issues with plumbing. We are also planning to use our camper for a trade show in middle Tennessee 2nd week of December. It could be in the 40's at night or it could be in the low teens. Last year it was 11 degrees when we were loading out Sunday night and an ice storm closed a lot of roads. Don't want the pipes or holding tanks to freeze! |
