There is no camping on the Natchez Trace....

... no trash on the ground, tanks dumped, fire rings...

The 444 miles of the Natchez Trace encompass 10,000 years of history... and the traditional homelands of the Natchez, Chicksaw, and Choctaw Nations.

Emerald mound is one of Americas largest Indian Mounds... it is a National Historic Landmark

At one time farmers from places like Ohio would ship there crops, livestock and other goods down the Mississippi River by barge. They'd seel their boats too and walk or tide horseback north up the the old Trace to get home. wagons would sink into the soft muck preventing many from using them.

Our day is getting a little brighter as we travel in a south westernly direction (it was a deep freeze in Oak Ridge by now)...

I think the park service hires the mowing and harvesting...
