What are your thoughts on Port O'Connor?
Port O'Conner is very nice... it appears to be mostly vacation homes and trailer parks...it is very clean... but then there are very few people there (no vehicles in the driveways.... windows boarded up hurricane style).... it might be the economy that has the housing empty..... the weather was nice... it was April.
I'd hate to have an emergency... it's a pretty long drive to Port Lavaca.... you'd probably want to study up on your first aid.
You would have to bring everything you want with you.... we didn't dee a store or gas station
And.. it's about 1 foot above sea level.... meaning, someday, maybe soon youwould be able to fish off your 2nd story deck. (Most of the houses are elevated.
We enjoyed the visit... but the one day was enough.... and we are glad that we went....
Note... clean up the bathroom at Port Lavaca's City Campground and Port Lavaca would be perfect 6 months out of the year... more if you like heat and humidity.

When we left Port Lavaca we followed TX 35 highway south to Rockport and then Ingleside...and Corpus Christi
I'd spent a lot of time in the 1990's in this area.... so we moved on through...
Kingsville wasn't much... we passed it on US 77 .... boring miles....a lot of Border Patrol activity... an occassional gate in the fences.... usually another entry into the King Ranch.
Most of the Border patrol activity was traffic going north....

Brownsville was a lot nicer than we'd anticipated... we stopped at the visitors center and SAMs wholesale to reprovision.
on the south east side of town we connected with the Padre Island Highway... this is what we came for....
Port Isabel is the the last town on the mainland....then a very long bridge over the intercoastal waterway...
