Thoughts...

One of our friends from the TC forum asked about our travels... and did we buy art to hang at home.

My answer was in part:

Thinking about your question. We have been out in this camper 1238 nights. Let us assume that the cost $100 a day for us to travel and that we have over $100,000 in the camper, the truck, and the modifications.

Using these figures it would be easy to assume that we may
have a quarter of $1 million tied up in our travels over the
last 12 years. (about $10,000/year)

We could probably buy a nice painting for that; Not a great one but a very nice one

But from our point of view sharing in all of the art and other things that we have done what we have done has been priceless... And if we had a piece of art that good we would have it on permanent loan where as many others could enjoy it as we enjoy all of the things we do.

Life has really been good to us and we have been pretty good to life.

I wonder if many of you have ever looked at your investment in your trucks and campers... in the travels you share with all of us... and realize how much we appreciate it?

Chet and Janet... traveling through for more than 52 years.

BTW... as we get older we change more than we like to admit... even to our selves... just 15 years ago I was taking Whitewater raft guide training... that was my 60th year....

Traveling to museums and art galleries and Valle Caulderra at 10,000 or 11,000 feet is a big deal for us now

We hope all of you find ways to travel and share this year and always in the future..... you have a lot invested.

It is very cool... and VERY WINDY

I'm not sure that we'll head further norh... and when we head home it might be I-40 corridor all the way

I dread the heat... Janets is tollerating the cold here in Santa Fe, NM.

NM is a very nice state... we have been here about 7 weeks...

Home is HOT!

There is a nice boon docking spot about 60 miles north of I-40 outside Fayetteville, AR waiting on you. Nice places to eat nearby. Come see me. 67Avion has a future reservation.

We are in Little Rock... waiting out the flood warning.

We visited wirh NRAlifer and his mega garage project yesterday... Wow!

It is beautiful and very functional. The truck is like new too!

We had snow in Santa Fe on Saturday... all of the mountains were white.... by the time we hit the Texas border on sunday we were hot.

We are scooting east to avoid tornados.... Janets fear!

We hope to slow down at the Mississippi River.

Chet

This is the first time we have used I-40 for cross country.

"Life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans", so said John Lennon in "Beautiful Boy".

I'm writing from a hospital in Baltimore awaiting Linda's discharge. After removal of her gallbladder, a series of life threatening events has kept us in hospital through out the Memorial Day holiday. She was admitted 17 May, ending our plan to finally enter the Great Smoky NP.
Hopefully all will be now well.

We hope to leave some estate to our heirs. We are not overly concerned, as our experience has been that those upon whom unearned wealth has been granted, usually tend to squander. Your figures are very close to ours. We tend to be fairly cautious about spending, but do not hesitate or scrimp on our travel plans. Life is Good! We all appreciate most those things we have earned, me thinks.

It's a question of balance.......................

We are home... we had a fantastic time... 60 nights... 9 states... most of the trip was in New Mexico

I am behind on my TR's... the last 109 nights.... the trip to Brownsville and this trip.

I had a bout with Shingles in the middle of this trip... started medicating immediately.... luckily we had the medicines with us after me having the shingles in 2009 (the first tim was around 2000)

I'm beginning to believe that the TC and truck are close to a break-even point..... 1241 nights.

Looking forward to another trip in the future.

Note we finished on a good note: we visited a wonderful friend near Nashville on the way home... spent a Memorial Day with them.... it was fantastic...

I hereby promise... I will do the trip reports soon....

Thanks for the PMs, emails, and phone calls that kept us going.

Chet
