Now, looking down river.
In 1967 I needed work... the chemical company where I worked was on strike.
I got a job with W Q Waters Paint Company... I painted the inside of the capital dome... with white lead paint and little pots of color for the flowers. We were on 40 foot picks , 88 feet off of the marble floor. I was scared to death but I needed the money... I had a family.
My brother helped put the Gold Leaf on the outside.
Memories... Memory Trip

The Capital complex is about 5 blocks from where I work. You are all over my neck of the woods. We fish several bass tournaments from the ramp just up stream from that bridge. (I hate the river....nasty!!!!! Once caught an 8 oz fish, a woman's shoe and a dirty diaper)

Hello Lisa,
I was pleasently surprised as we drove around te area and especially Charleston. We didn't see much liter, grafitti, etc.
There are a lot of areas in the USA that are worse. I'm sure that we could have found some with a little effort.
New River and the Kanawha River are joined to be one of the few major north flowing rivers in the world... starting in North Carolina, through Virginia, across West Virginia to connect with the Ohio River at Pt Pleasant. At one time in drained all of the chemical and sanitary sewage in the area from start to end.
When I lived on the river bank 40 years ago I could set a sheet of newspaper on fire, toss it on the river, and the surface of the river would briefly catch on fire across from the St Albans Road Side Park (where we have been parking at night).
Now it is clean enough that you can catch bass, even have Bass fishing clubs... I agree, it is dispicable that you can catch a dirty diaper that had been discarded by some low life. Maybe some poor woman lost her shoe when her canoe over turned ![doh [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/doh.gif)
I wish that we had met you and your family while we were there.

Like a lot of good things... the AAA professional baseball team lost Watt Powell Park. Over the years several Major League baseball teams had their farm leagues here.
Janet, her mother, and her paternal grandmother didn't miss a home game for years.
I suppose that what we are seeing over there is progress... or maybe just a future empty store front like so many that we see as we travel around north America.

We circled around Kanawha City... it's hard tp believe that a place could support so many Fast Food joints.
