There is another reason that I'm facinated by this small school with the unlikely name of "Rio Grande" in the hills of SE Ohio.

One of my favorite cousins, my neighbor, and my high school classmate recieved a schlorship from Rio Grande in 1958... football.

Jon was a very good running back... but not that big. He later transfered to WV Tech... again playing football sucessfully.

What intrigues me is the number of people that excel after being recruited from this little college.

Jon went on to be a successful high school coach for a few years... then he moved on...eventually he worked his way up in the business world, aquiring businesses as he went.

When we were 60 years old Jon sold most of his businesses for $175,000,000.00... yep, 175 million dollars... I read it in the newspaper. And have seen him a few times since.

Rio Grande College gave him a break... a foot up... a chance to get an advanced education that eventually led to success.

I'm happy to have this chance to drive through the campus... Bevo Francis and Jon... and now I know where Rio Grande college is located... it was less than 50 miles from where I grew up all the time.

One of the students told us they no longer have football... she didn't know who Bevo Francis was/is.
