TF36DSMatt - Is there some point to your charts? If there is, I'm not getting it?

So Traxtermax, now that you've taken about 8 paragraphs to blame everyone else. What part of this do you take ownership of?

It looks like I wasted 8 paragraphs on you. What do you think should be done?

The point is that this is looking more like a temporary bubble than the supply and demand changes that the media would like us to belive.

I saw a "news" piece on Fox this morning showing Nigerian militants shooting off RPGs and had to laugh. Of course, the kidnappings in that part of the world are not a laughing matter but this was a "made for TV" piece designed to instill fear. In my opinion, an entertainment piece. Terrorism against oil supply lines is not new and would not cause a splke of this magnitude.

Draw your own conclusions from the data but personally I would not be suprised to see $60 oil within 2 years.

As a Nation, quit using 20.7 MILLION BARRELS of oil every day! Lacking that, nothing is going to change.

You may consider a 6% or 8% profit obscene, but look at it this way. If you have a 401-K, IRA, SEP, pension plan or have any type of retirement plan, like it or not, you are likely invested in Exxon/Mobil (otherwise known as Big Oil on this forum), Walmarts, Microsoft, IBM, etc. You don't invest that money with the expectation of getting a 2% return on investment. You expect a return of 6%, 8%, 10% and hope for even more. Some of that obscene profit is re-invested and some is returned to investors.

Until this Nation realizes that 20.7 million barrels (not gallons) of oil every day (and rising?) is not sustainable, the laws of supply and demand (economics 101) are going to dictate that the prices are going to continue to rise.

Before I get to 8 paragraphs its quit simple, cut the demand the prices will fall. If you keep doing the same things, the same way, you can expect the same results.

That's it, Wing Zealot! Period!

We pay lip service to nobler values, but we're selfish creatures from birth and, beneath the veneer of polite discourse, all we really care about is our own instant gratification. It's terribly hard for us to deny ourselves that gratification when it's possible for us to temporarily satisfy it. We need to make the necessary cuts in fuel consumption gradually, while there's still time - which is a lot less painful than having to make draconian changes in one's life all at once.

If Matt is right about the $60 oil in a couple of years, how sweet it would be. We'd fire-up the rig and take off! But, if it's $200 we need to be prepared as well. Prepare for the worst case scenario and hope for something better. Like this summer's trip, for example - we cancelled it, my wife cried for days and I was a tyrannical ogre. If it goes to ten dollars we're prepared to deal with it. If it drops to $3.00, we'll go to New England as planned. We have to be in control of our own lives and establish lines and perimeters. If you just "go with the flow", as so many do, you might roll off the edge of a cliff - which I fear is going to happen to millions when the cc cards max-out!

Every long term decision we make - changing jobs, buying a house or a car, choosing a college - should be made with the assumption that gas will be $10/gal. If it's not that bad, how sweet it is.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

Conserve? How can I do that? I've already switched to a car that get's 25+ on my drive into work, from one that got 17. I'm cutting back on the length of MH trips. Considering that we are not driving to work while camping, we almost break even. My boss doesn't believe in people working from home. My current job does not allow me to work any closer to home (30 miles one way). Everyone keeps telling me to cut back. How?

BTW, I'm serious, how can I?

It appears our government is helping push the price of fuel up!

Read this: from CNN Money (I do believe them): "the diesel prices outpacing gasoline, refiners in the United States have been ramping up production of diesel and sending it abroad. That has displaced some domestic gasoline production, helping push gas prices higher."

I have relatives in Europe; the heck with them, let them build their own refineries.

Why doesn't the Democrats and Republicans (both share this issue).

WE HAVE ENOUGH OIL FOR 60+ YEARS IN KNOWN RESERVES ALONE IN THE US FOR OUR CONSUMPTION, PERIOD, FACT.
FACT #2....The Government has not allowed us access to OUR OIL!
FACT #3...."BIG OIL" has tried to build new refineries and expand oil production, GOVERNMENT, pushed by ENVIRONMENTALISTS, have stopped them
FACT #4...We are now experiencing what the GREEN movements wants!

GUESS WHAT FOLKS, don't worry about your grandchildren having oil in 60 years,
worry about what they are going to eat NEXT YEAR....
Our Economy will not withstand $10 gallon diesel. Diesel has gone up 25% in @ MONTHS! 2 MONTHS folks....
OUR FUEL CONSUMPTION HAS GONE DOWN IN THE US, AND THE PRICES HAVE RAISED!!
so much for all you people sreaming USE LESS, it's NOT helping.....
ECONOMIC EXPANSION (this is what benefits your Grandchildren) requires ENERGY!
But don't worry, if our economy falls, so will every other economy in the world, so we wont be alone, all BECAUSE WE ARE STUPID AND WONT DRILL OUR OWN OIL
OPEN UP OUR OIL FIELDS, START REFINING, AND START IT NOW!
as well as build Nuclear plants, expand Natural Gas Production, Wind Power, Solar, Tidal, BIO, ETC,
WHILE WE LOOK FOR THE FUEL OF TOMARROW, NE NEED FUEL FOR TODAY, otherwise, there will NOT BE A TOMARROW.
THINK PEOPLE! DONT LET THE MEDIA CRAM THIS **** DOWN OUR THROAT!

Can you back that up? I can show that they have tried to CLOSE refineries to drive the price up.
