Actually, 460 billion is well within the capability of the govt's purchasing XOM. Nationalization may be distasteful, even "unamerican", but the kind of numbers you are talking about are certainly not outside the realm of feasibility.

This country is gradually liberalizing and morphing into a western european-type, socially-progressive society. Although we are shifting left more rapidly in the social/religious area, democratic socialism can't be far behind. The rugged individualism and laissez faire capitalism that built this country was a product of tough, proud, patriotic, God-fearing, hard working immigrant stock. They weathered every crisis and came out stronger than before. But, like the wimpy, whining, spoiled brats of a wealthy industrialist, we have sadly lost the fortitude, faith and patriotism of our fathers. We can't even fight a war anymore because we are afraid we might hurt somebody!

The terrorist scum that hide in the slums of Bagdad must be thanking Allah that they don't have to confront the Greatest Generation of proud, unflinching Americans that swept ashore on Normandy. Yamomoto's "sleeping giant" hasn't just gone back to sleep. He's dead!

eltejano1.
Posts or public statements like yours may very soon be forbidden and considered to be a threat to National Security because it acts to incite readers to become rebellious. Also talk radio has been suggested as being problematic.

In a very small way it is true, because it gets people to think and then they spread these words to others and before you know it we have a bunch of upset people requiring "Counseling" or "Grief and Anger Management".

We are not the same people that we were in the days of our "Foundling Fathers",and there are many more different nationalities here then before.
Also many, many different pressure's that each of us is confronted with.

Like having to miss the last episode of "Lost" or "Survivor" which seems more important then more pressing matters.

If we are not responsible then someone needs to guide us and care for us.

No more "Doctors", but rather "Care Givers".
No more "Socialists", but rather Progressives".

Got to go for a whine Break.

Tell me how this works: "At a bare minimum, government ensures that money's value will not be undermined by prohibiting counterfeiting, but in almost all societies—including capitalist ones—governments attempt to regulate many more aspects of their economy... for the benefit of the people."

Because undermining the value of money against foreign currencies is caused by deficit spending. Far and away, the biggest cause of the spiralling cost of oil is the declining value of the dollar on foreign markets. Why does the value of the dollar fall, deficit spending. Now when do you suppose that deficit spending will end? No time soon I suspect.

If you see gas as low as $3.25 anytime in the next 10 years you will think you've hit the Mega Jackpot lottery. My personal guess is anything below $3.50 will be rare and $3.75 is the most likely sustainable long term price.

There's more truth in that than one might think. Even our own moderator has deleted these types of posts. It is now illegal in our neighboring democracy to the north for a pastor to read Romans 1:26-28 aloud in his pulpit. So, Canada is even banning the Bible because it threatens their social values.

Hopefully, you'll get to read this before Brother Dick deletes it. [emoticon]

Mr. Orwell, eat your heart out.

To tell the truth there are probably more people then you think that would like someone to ease the burden of certain decisions.

What are we only going to nationalize ExxonMobil, what about Shell, BP, Chevron and Conoco Phillips and the others. It seems to me you have to do the industry otherwise other companies are facing serious disadvantages and that is not fair to their investors. This country is all about fairness, at least according to a certain segment of its society, isn't it? Just to nationalize the big 5 you will need well over a trillion dollars. I know its chump change to some around here, but to me that is real money. Then there is the drillers, pipe line companies, independent retailers, the list goes on and on. If you didn't do it all, there would be lawsuits until Armageddon. Probably would need another two trillion to complete the job, I don't think that is within the realm of common sense, especially since it PRODUCES nothing. Because as I said, it is cash up front, no time payments. You are taking my property, and I want payment NOW. The AFLCIO, government employee's, teachers and some other unions might be willing to take payments, but individual investors are probably going to say GO SIT ON A ROCK AND TWIST. Why will they say that, you ask? Because government cannot be trusted to pay up. Just look at how they are handling Social Security. Cash talks, and that amount is just not available.

What can I say about this countries backbone? It doesn't have one any more. I think it was lost somewhere between Korea and Viet Nam. It was sure wonderful being spit at, I know I enjoyed it. NOT! This country is a shell of what it once was. Once a very proud and brave nation, now we have to ask and beg for things. It is not a pretty sight. For those who wish to talk with all of this countries enemies, fine. But just remember, when all is said and done, your freedoms will be gone, and you will be left with an empty feeling and asking what happened. Because our enemies don't believe in freedom! The scary part is that there are a lot of enemies of this great country within its borders now. They were BORN here.

In oder to perpetuate the "security Threats" there have to be a couple of "Real" threats to show. A Token Threat, if you will.

Possibly in 2009 many of the Presumed Threats will disappear, just to show how much the 2009 group is doing for us.

At this point it is all mere speculation as to what will actually happen next year. so I think we have to wait and see.
No point in going off the deep end before it is really needed. Let us relax and calm down. Getting all upity doesn't help anyone, just raises blood pressures.

See, I'm calming down already. CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALM. OMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Folks, I have allowed some unusual dialogue in this thread but please keep the text civil and cease the personal attacks. Otherwise, I will have to interpret the rules in a considerably different manner. [emoticon]

I have not.

I have a question for you: What is more expensive your fuel costs for traveling or the payments on your 07 TV and 08 TT?
