Currently in Harlem Netherlands. Regular is about 9.32 per gallon here. Diesel is around 7.60 and thats more the fuel of choice. Cool little motorhomes here. Its common to see them down town Amsterdam or at least the smaller ones. We will be in Germany tomorrow. It will be cheaper there.

Side note. Harlem is a nice place to spend a week or two. 15 minutes to Amsterdam by train. Nice town to base from. Bike, feet or train is the way to get around. Very nice country.

Hi all. We are now in the little town of Bacharach on the Rheine river in Germany. We arrived yesterday. Lots of traffic on the autobahn but there was a ton of RV.s on the road. There are two large campgriunds here on the river as well (actually just down the road in St Goar) and both were pretty full. Nice spots in absolutely beautiful little towns. We are staying in a 700 year old castle. Kinda cool. Anyway. Gas and diesel were about 28 cents per litre cheaper here than my post above in holland. Happy travels all.

I haven't traveled by RV in Europe, but my observations living there, occasionally, were that the campgrounds are wonderful. Usually scenic, close to towns with convenience facilities and close to cities with larger scale facilities, and with a generally accepting attitude to 'caravans', as they are often called. I was amazed to see European RV families pull off the road at noon and make their picnic in a nearby field or pasture beneath a shady tree, take a snooze, and then pack up and drive off, taking every scrap of trash with them. No irate farmer, no strife.

Europeans DO have trouble with "Gypsies" because of their bad reputation for regular petty theft, and sometimes more. Gypsies are also scorned for their begging. (In the USA we have gypsies, too, usually called 'Travellers', who generally congregate in the Southeast states, but we have many in the Atherton California area, yes, the "richest suburb in America" in many polls, is largely owned and often inhabited by Gypsies/travellers. They own an enormous amount of land right here in Silicon Valley, especially in Menlo Park, where they have huge uninhabited urban lots for their occasional gatherings. The richest and most exclusive Country Club on the peninsula, "Menlo Circus Club", is on gypsy land and right next to their other holdings. That's why you can find a Palm Reader on El Camino Real: it's grandfathered in.

Gasoline prices have risen 6ยข a gallon to $3.55. Just in time for the summer driving season to begin. Diesel ranges from $3.91 to $3.99. The oil price is $102.71 this morning. Wonder how high prices will go this summer??

Currently in Austria. Diesel here is 1.36 EUROS per litre. Gas is more but forgot to look. We have noticed that many small towns seem to allow dry camping overnight in parking lots or the streets. There are a whack of RV, s on the road right now. Most are 24 foot and under trailers. All pulled by cars. Still havent seen a pickup on the road. Hords of motorhomes also.

We have been on the road all month and the highest prices yet are here in northern/central PA and upstate NY at $3.79. We are headed to Elkhart so we'll see what Ohio has to offer tomorrow. [emoticon]
