Hi ReneeG,
It came standard with a 3.73 gear ratio. The Mag-Hytec does make it look a little larger.
Thanks!

thats a good gear ratio - probably have no problem towing that load and yet you still get the benefits of reasonable mpg.
those Mag-Hytec's are nice covers, increased fluid capacity and finned which both contribute to extra cooling and increased longevity! its an ADDED bonus that they have a (proper) drain plug and most also have a dipstick for checking the level. Nice touch & a worthy mod!

I've always liked how the Mag-Hytec looks. AAM is certainly capable of designing an axle that doesn't need one, but I do like the added insurance of extra cooling and ease of service. I think it looks really cool, too! I also have the matching transmission pan, and my previous 1500 had them too.
Thanks!

Nice. 4.3 rear axle ratio?
why would you say that? because of the aftermarket (higher fluid capacity) Mag-Hytec cover?

Oh. Ha ha. Thanks. We originally had a 3.73 on a prior TV and upgraded it to a 4.3, and had a cover like that. I thought it was beautiful.

VERY nice! But use extreme caution the 68RFE and head gasket can be short lived with mods.

Roger that, we only put 40 horse extra in the tune, I was trying to increase mileage. Didn't work too good though, picked up 1 or 2 MPG, 9 to 11 loaded, usually, and around 16 to 18 running empty. My understanding is anything over 40 hp and you need to go to head studs. As for the trans we keep an eye on temps and I just changed the fluid and filters (about 49,000 miles) and everything looked ok. I couldn't believe how clean the engine oil stays, up to around 400 or 500 miles before it really starts getting black, after we ripped all that pollution **** off. No smog check in Iowa.
