Maybe it wasn't all that to you, but that's the kind of site I look for, Very spacious, grass, a few trees for shade & access to the lake, looks nice to me.
It was also swarming with black flies.
The real gem was the lake/beach attached to the site. AMAZING!

Buffalo Campground in North Dakota. Very Private. $6 per night! (no hookups, showers were locked). Plans only had us here for one night.

I think I camped right across the path from your Rafter J spot this summer. The scenery looks familiar. That or you were up on the island.
