Thanks..this was our first time camping at Vogel and it couldn't have been better...we had been on day trips before and never thought we'd get the site we had, which was #59....at GA State Parks you can't reserve "specific" sites, you are just guaranteed "a" site...some folks don't like that system, however we do...otherwise I think these sites would always be booked with no chance of getting it....we showed up on a Wednesday morning in April and had several to chose from on the creek...by the weekend they were all full as was most of the park...not all sites here are on the water, but there is water flowing all through the campground which we just love...talk about peaceful sleeping !! I'm assuming the water flows all year, since our day trips were in fall and winter and it was flowing..... The first waterfall picture is in the park, the other just a couple of miles outside the park...and yes, I had a hard time getting husband out of the hammock [emoticon] We love Vogel State Park.

In IL you can reserve specific sites, and as soon as that reservation window opens they're gone. I can never get them. Plus, I can't plan too much in advance. Our parks do keep sites that are only first come/first served, however. They're also hard to get if they're waterfront. At the lake nearest us, friends save the site. They only pull out when their friends are pulling in. Such a coincidence. lol

Here's a combination of pics. from our trip to "George L. Smith State Park" and "Magnolia Springs State Park" in middle, eastern Georgia...We camped at George L. Smith and went on a day trip to Magnolia Springs, not far away.....both parks are fantastic !! George L. Smith campground is on a lake with huge cypress trees and the park has an old mill from 1880...Magnolia Springs has a crystal clear spring with turtles galore and many alligators...also was the site of a Civil War prison...we loved both of these parks and can't wait to go back !!

THE VIEW FROM OUR CAMPSITE :

My VERY favorite place to sleep !!! Our bed hanging over Lake Lanier, just down the street from home...with today's gas prices, we feel very fortunate to have such a nice campground close by..we have had so many fun camping trips here.

Simply gorgeous! I feel that I've seen those pics. Maybe you've posted them before. Well worth another glance anyway. I love the canvas, too. I have an add-a-room, so I feel that I have the best of both worlds too. Feel like sleeping out under the canvas, do it!
