I guess you are saying that I don't have enough truck for that trailer? It pulls fine, hec my dad has an '02 2500HD and pulls a much heavier Avion with his. He has pulled it many many miles.

Trucks can pull much more than they're rated at. There's a number of things that go in to rating a vehicle (wear and tear on the motor, transmissions, etc. and all are not created equal). One of the main things that vehicles are rated at is the ability to control and stop in an emergency situation.

Hoping that you don't experience engine or tranny failure but I really pray that you don't have to learn the last one the hard way.

I do appreciate the concerns, but I do think that the trailer falls below the rating for the truck all though it be close it is within the limits. This is my daily driver as well. IF I could afford to get a dedicated tower it would be a 1 ton. But we wanted the most trailer we could get and still stay within the specs of the truck. I think it is 17K for my particular truck.

The most important issue here is that you are aware of the numbers and limitations. And if you operate that truck/RV combo with that in mind you should be OK. What is scary are the folks that really have no clue the weights they are towing and what their truck can safely handle. Somebody might have told them 'oh sure, your truck can handle that' and they happily go their way. Ignorace is not bliss when towing heavy.

I totally agree! I can't tell you how many times I see people at gas stations in a half ton truck towing a 35ft tow behind and the bumper is almost dragging the ground that scares me. My truck with that engine and tranny does good. My dad used to have a 97 f350 powerstroke and towed that 39 ft Avion and now tows with the 2500 HD and says it does fine and gets better mpg's. His trailer weighs close to 20K.

Well that 17K figure, is for a stripper TV, and the 17K gets reduced as you add items to the TV.

There are axle and tire ratings, TIRE being the most important.

So, the Drive train between a 2500 and 3500 is the same, as stated, Most important thing is what is the weight on the rear axle, and what iis it rated for.

I think he's saying you're grossly overloaded. Don't matter what you think or someone else has done. Weigh it.
