Pickles has not been herself the last several days. Her stool looked terrible Wednesday. We took a sample and her to our Vet. They just said she had a bacteria and gave us some antibiotics and Pepcid. She has not been eating and even turns away from her favorite foods. Yesterday I could not even get her to eat a piece of chicken to take her pill. We took her to the ermgency clinic with another sample. They did some blood work and tested her stool. Her blood work was good but her stool tested positive for Giardia. Don't understand how she got that. This Vet sent us home with more medicine and some cat food. Said to mix cat food and ensure with crushed up pill. Put into syringe and give it to her. She did eat some yesterday. This morning she is back to not wanting to eat. |

Sorry about Pickles. Good news that her blood work was OK. Sometimes GI issues take a few days to work through the system. Giardia is pretty easily picked up, usually by ingesting the parasite from contaminated water or from contaminated stools. If Pickles is anything like our dogs, they sniff/lick many things during their walks. Sasha in particular puts just about anything she finds that might be interesting in her mouth (haven't quite broken her of that yet). BTW, if one of the medications is metronidazole (flagyl) it tastes REALLY bad. That can affect taste and appetite for a short period after medicating if the pill dissolves in the mouth. That's one we try to wrap in small amount of food or poke it down to minimize the possibility of getting a bad taste in the mouth. She is taking metronidazole we do wrap all her pills in food. But she has figured it out. I think she can smell the pill. The Vet gave us some can food and said to mix 50/50 food and ensure with crushed pill in syringe. We did that the first day. She ate pretty good yesterday. It was a first time in a while that she ate her dry dog food by itself. She is also taking Panacur Liquid 100mg. We are giving her 5 ml of that. He also said to give her a probiotic. |

Hope everyone had a great Easter. Pickles is feeling better. She is almost back to her normal self. She has always been a picky eater and it is still difficult to give her the medicine. But so far so good. A few more days of the antibiotic, at least a week of the Pancur and about the same of the probiotic. The Pancur is a syringe so that is just a matter of fighting to squirt it into her mouth. The Probiotic is another thing. Sprinkling in her food she knows it there. |

Good morning everyone. We are home after a great weekend. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Dixie really was full of her self yesterday. She grabbed a whole bag of Reese's Peanut butter cups and ate them wrapper and all. When we got home she got a zipper bag of Equal and ate some of those, guess she ate the plastic bad as well. So now we wait and watch to see what comes out in the poop. We had a great time at Magnolia Springs State Park. Our site was only thirty amp so Son Scott bought an adapter for us that plugs into both thirty amps receptacles one end and has a fifty amp plug at the other, first one of those I have ever seen, but it worked great. The only thing was we really didn't need both A/C units running at the same time as the weather was cool all weekend. While we were in Waynesboro we visited some friends and went by the cemetery and put some flowers on the graves of Mom and Dad. It's a shame no one from the family goes out there as the same flowers we put there last year were still there, faded but still there. We went by the city park where the Old Fella Memorial is located, it looks nice and well kept. So may memories left behind when we moved to Piedmont, South Carolina. The drive home yesterday was nice. We took our time and enjoyed the scenery. Don't know where we will go next as there is a lot going on that will keep us home for a while. Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. |
