What kind of dog is Old Fellow? I haven't read all the post, just some. I'm just curious how someone could leave him. Old Fellow is always in my thoughts.

Old Fellow is a sooner. He has a partial black tongue which indicates he is part chow.

That is wonderful news and to have so many people willing to help catch him and the vet's willingness to help as well.

Dogs usually come around pretty fast when they realize regular meals are involved (I volunteer at a no-kill shelter). You can talk to them, pet them and they'll calm down.

Of course, time at the vet's will be upsetting to him as well. I know what it does to my girls!! They don't like it there.

Will wait to hear the medical report. I don't know how people can just discard an animal like that. Just horrible.

My heart is with you and your rescue! I understand your "hopes," too, about doing the right thing. But, really, what else could you do, once you saw him the first time????

You may be pleasantly surprised at how he responds after he calms down--I hope so.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Barbara , you are right, what else could be done. I watch animal planet and the pet rescues. (Animal Cops) At times they rescue a dog from unimaginable cruelty. Burnes, starved, chains imbedded in their necks, even shot. They are sometimes brought back from the brink of death, treated and are placed in good homes.. Lots of tears on my part. Sometime the tears are for the not so happy endings. This show is why we donated to the Houston SPCA for the Katrina Pets. The Houston SPCA is featured a lot on Animal Planet. Bless Dixie. If he needed help we would be happy to donate to help Phonix?...Barb

Got a blistering phone call this morning from a horse ranch next door to the park claiming ownership of Old fellow. They want him back.

Doesn't sound like he deserves to keep this dog, probably cut his foot off and left it to heal. He surely hasn't had any vet care. Maybe he can be charged with animal cruelty and neglect. Make up a sorry that he ran away! They certainly don't deserve to get him back.

Well that dried up the tears in my eyes!

It seems as if they neglected this poor soul. I don't think they would have much claim, especially since you now have this guy under a vet's care.

Please keep us posted.
