Today I took Old Fella for a ride in the truck. He isn't comfortable riding he just tolerates it. He hasn't got his truck legs yet and bounces off the back rest of the front seat when I slow down or stop. I am trying to get him comfortable with traveling as we will be in the truck for about 5 1/2 hours next weekend going to Cherokee, NC.

Richard,
Do you have a blanket or s soft bed that Old Fella can ride in? It might make the trip easier on the Old Guy.

A seat belt harness might help, if he'll tolerate it. It would be safer, too. You put the harness on the dog, then the people seatbelt gets run through a loop on the back and clicked in. Easy Rider is the brand we use but there are others as well. They run about $20-25 at Petsmart, I think.

We actually have a slightly used size Large I'd be happy to send to Old Fella if you'd like. If you're not travelling until next weekend, Priority Mail could probably have it there by Tuesday or Wednesday and that would give you a couple of days to get him used to it. Let me know.

Yes. I have the back seat lined with a blanket. Levi also will be riding with Old Fella so there won't be a whole lot of moving around for either of them. We plan to make rest stops along the way so they can get out and stretch a little bit.

I have to take Old Fella back to Dr Gradous next Tuesday for a heart worm check to see how effective the treatment has been. I hope he will not have to go through any more treatments as it is tough on the old boy.

Thanks Michelle. If you don't mind please send the harness and I will give it a try. We are not leaving until a week from today so that is time enough to get it here. Once again thank you very much.

As we were walking today he dropped a mess in my neighbor's yard and I wasn't prepared so when I got home I got a shovel and went back to scoop it up. Just as I was cleaning up the mess the neighbor came out and said "Good for you. Now I won't have to send it back to you." I really wonder if he would do that???

It just proves that the furkids are very unpredicatble until we get to know THEIR schedule. As for the neighbor - yes, he would have brought it back to your yard/doorstep as I have heard of people who do that.(Disgusting thought isn't it?) He could have been a good neighbor and just picked it up, unless it has become a "great spot" for the other neighborhood pets, and he is just tired of it. My daughter got us a "saddlebag" that attaches to the extend-o-leash (or whatever they are called) so we always have bags with us.

Thanks for taking such good care of Old Fella. Everyone should know about him. Does the KOA know Old Fella's story?

I don't think The KOA in Cherokee knows the story about Old Fella. Do you think they would be interested?
