Dixie, Give Old Fellow a big hug from Mickey and I, and tell him that our thoughts and prayers are with him. Also that we are so very happy that you and he found each other, and he now has a happy forever home and family.

When he decides to "date," I have a couple really cute girls that may want to give Dixie Dew some competition. [emoticon]

Can't wait for more pictures, especially after seeing the big difference in his looks in the first two.

" What a gentle soul he is and he still has a lot of love to give even after all that he has been through. We can learn a lot from Old Fellow about bitterness or the lack of it. I look at him and say to myself what an example for others to follow in accepting all the hardship that life has given and still be able to love and trust."

Did anyone forget that "dog" is "God" backwards? No wonder they are so forgiving.....

Just got back from the kennel and there was some bonding going on today. I sat down on the grass and Old Fellow came over and lay down beside me. I think he is trying to get a handle on me, trying to figure out just who I am and what role am I going to have in his life? I can imagine he has had so many people come and go in his life he is wondering if I am going to leave also. He would just look at me and turn his head to one side with that puzzled look on his face.

I gave him a real test today to see if I could provoke him into growling at me. I took food right out of his mouth and he allowed me to do so without a struggle. He just looked at me as if to say, "If you want it you can have it". He is going to make a nice companion when he gets use to everything, I am just sure of it. I think of his lonely life living out in the park in the cold winter time and then in the heat of the summer trying to find relief from the 90 - 100 degree summers we have here. I am hoping that Monday he can come home and start his new life here. He deserves to have the best life has to offer and I am going to do the best I can to see that he has it.

It breaks my heart to think of what his sad eyes must have seen. You have one heck of a companion!

Our Axel was a rescue (someone dumped him in the middle of January and the shelter housed him for a month until we adopted him. When we first brought Axel home, he seemed to fit in. He has been in our lives for three great years. He has adjusted to our work schedule, but there are times for whatever reason he does not like to be left alone. He barks very loud in the house and tries to open the door withi his mouth. Or if we are playing on the beach (and no one is around I drop his lead) and he wanders a bit, he quickly turns around and gets into his heel mode.

When we first adopted him, I would give him a cookie or a bone marrow bone filled with peanut butter and say see you in a little bit. It helps ease any anxiety.

Again, thank you for opening your heart and home to this Old Fellow!

If I may offer a couple of suggestions that may help Old Fellow integrate into your household?

Keep in mind that he might need an adjustment period. He presumably hasn't been in a house for a while. Be aware that things that are normal, everyday occurrences to you might be startling to him. The TV set, the vacuum, and the telephone come immediately to mind.

I'm sure you've already thought of this sort of thing, but I just thought I'd mention it.
