"22000 miles. Better safe than sorry my friend ?? {" yes, for sure....still, at 34k & 2004 model Chev 1 ton chassis I expected better. I know about 'rim crack' etc having worked in a retread shop about 50 years ago. My brother owned a tire store for over 30 years. Sent him photos & he was surprised as well. Oddly enough, the worst of both were mounted on the inside rear dually...almost like someone was hiding what they had already seen. The whole set, lets say, were at the "+5/10" level, while these 2 were in the Oh NO.....they might explode while I'm just looking at them....discovered when under the rig for another purpose. Never saw such severe example ever, in 'such a new tire'. |

quietjake - One of the problems we as owners of RV's have is we do not put on enough miles before the tires have weathered and aged. Our 2002 tires were carefully driven for 9 years with 39,180 miles. The unit is parked indoors whenever we are not on the road. The "General" tire sidewalls still looked new and I estimated still had about 4/32" of tread left. However, the age issue convinced me to spend $1,049.25 to replace 6 of them on September 21, 2011.

When we bought our 04' in April 2012, the local tire distributor said "they look pretty good" (8200 miles total). But when I told him we were planning an Alaska Trip in May of 2013, He agreed that it was a very good idea to change them since they were 43rd week of 2003 manufacture. He said locally with a TPMS, he would run them until one or two went. But not when looking at an 11,000 mile trip with very few services for about a third of the trip. He gave us a good deal and said he would probably "resell those seven tires for use on farm equipment, which have normally a very short life". BTW the 7 B+ tires cost less than 2 of the tires on our Phaeton. I put Mastercraft LT tires by Cooper on the B+, since I usually got 80,000+ miles on them on my company cars without any problems. We now have 27,000 miles on the B+ without the 1st tire problem.

We're still here also. Just been planning our annual outings. We travel about 5 extra long week-ends every year average of 500 to 1,000 miles each. Someone needs to bump this topic to the top every once in a while.

We're hiding from snow in Mission TX for one more week. Looks like the B+ won't be out of storage until early-mid May after a trip to FL and VA on the way to Indiana from Texas. 1st project on our return is the setting up of the 2011 Mazda Miata RHDT we bought last August as a toad for the B+. Did I mention it's slightly RED? Hope to have it ready for the FMCA National Rally in Wisconsin this summer, so we can give the Phaeton a rest.

That is reassuring! I have a 2001 B+ 21' (Chevy 5.7L ~ 27K miles now) and it performed flawlessly on my trip to FL in Dec. Went to storage facility in Jan, engine battery dead, but started and drove, topped the gas (only a few gallons) with premium. Tried it Feb, really hard to start and stalled. Finally got it running. A few weeks ago - same thing. Last weekend, would not start. I've been looking at the old posts and saw some people had fuel pump and / or fuel filter issues w/ the Chevy's. Not sure why the engine battery is draining, previous owner pointed it out to me before I bought it. It does have an aftermarket lock and auto start. Looks like I have a few items to take care of. Still like the RV though. 2001 Trail-Lite B-Plus 211 w/ 5.7L Chevy

We park ours usually in October and then do not restart until April or May. Only failed to start once because of a dead battery. I left the OBDII plugged in all winter. Did not know that it has a small drain on the battery. As soon as I connected a jumper battery to the dead battery, the OBDII chirped and showed status. Then I knew it was live all winter until it killed the battery. With the jump, the 5.7 came to life. That is reassuring!
