reports have said fuel pumps do give trouble.

not sure what is draining engine batt, and a new one w/ some manual disconnect-when-stored switch could help. a trickle charge may be better because...

when the engine computer memory is lost, upon restarting it takes some rough running minutes before it gets all reset

I'm suspicious of the remote start as well. Good comment about the OBDII. I have a little scanner as well which I need to also unplug. It was showing code PO300, which is a misfire. No check engine indication though..?

I have to realize that this unit was built in 2001. Perhaps it's going through a rebellious stage. It is a teenager!

re: "reports have said fuel pumps do give trouble."

One of our Major Trips suffered an early demise attempting to ascend the notorious Santiam Pass over the Cascade Range. Of only moderate elevation, something near 5000' and thru gorgeous terrain, my fuel pump crapped out.

Besides the trauma of potential traffic issues, the tow truck ride cost nearly $400 to closest repair site. Yea for insurance!!!

However, the mechanic bill was near $1000 parts & labor. No, that was NOT an insured benefit. Yes, tank R&R is required. No, there are no sympathetic vendors for this era fuel pump. Yes, it IS common malady for certain designs.

My buddy's Chev van crapped out on a trip to the coast a few years ago. Cost them nearly the same parts/labor.

For a coffee-can sized unit made of plastic/nylon/& minimal metal, yet still maximal expense to end user, I'm STILL aggravated. It's been probably 45 years since I had to have a fuel pump replaced.....and that was the 'craw into engine bay and swear at it' style...for WAY less than $1000......

Ours failed on a trip also at 11K miles and 9 years old. $813 included having the tank flushed, cleaned and 5 gallons of gas. Wanted all of the residue of old ethanol gas out of the tank.

in another thread discussing the possibility of ordering a customized B+ (phoenix cruiser) factory direct, i posted what i thought MY ideal B+ would look like. as a PC, it would be narrower and lower height than our TL 213, and...

suppose i wanted a minimalist sort of MH that had a no frills interior finish and minimal system redundancy (no propane, no coach-chassis engine connection, perhaps all DC power via batts and inverter even on shore power).

would PC consider such a build?

also, could a 22' no slide rig be made w/ this plan, only move beds and bath forward after placing the small galley behind the driver swivel seat, and a low height ref behind the swiwelling passenger cab seat?

it is weird how your subconscious can fail to communicate fully w/ your conscious mind, 'cuz as i later mulled over the floorplan i was proposing above, i realized the beds should be moved forward and away from the back room.

thus in the above pic w/ changes noted above, swap the bed section w/ the galley-fridge and then move front door to back...

but this is almost the same thing

which of course is the plan i already have (duh!), and which has been used for decades.

anyway, i would be interested in others' thoughts and desires, especially as regards a more minimally equipped rig -- either pro or con.

While not for everyone, I would like the TL 213 floorplan but with a queen bed over the cab, so making it a Class C. I thought the 213 was a great floorplan except for the bed(s). I hope whoever bought our 213 is enjoying all the little improvements we made. [emoticon]

Currently RV-less but not done yet.

burlmart and Snowman9000 - That is what keeps the RV converters in business. Looking for the perfect floor plan. We had a Class A with a bed over the driver and passenger. We got tired of climbing up the ladder to go to bed and then the middle of night climbing down and back up.

We are so much happier with our Class C that gets 12 MPG versus the Class A of 6 MPG. My wife never drove the Class A, she loves driving our Class C. We keep talking about going to the Upper part of Michigan over the Mackinac bridge. I have been over the bridge back in 1968. Now I want my wife to experience the feeling of flight in a motorhome.

I haven't posted anything here because we have gone over to the dark side and traded our 213 off on a Winnebago Vista 26he. This comes after spending last fall removing the sofa and rebuilding a platform for a twin (the photos are posted back a few pages).

I have to say I have mixed feelings. That 213 would fit almost anywhere and really was like a Suburban you could sleep in. Got great mileage and was pretty cheap. What made us switch was a change in life circumstance. My wife took a new job with housing supplied, so we sold our house. With no mortgage, utilities or taxes, we decided now was the time to upgrade the MH. We should have it paid for by the time I retire in 4 years.

The other issue was the lack of seating and sleeping for even one more person. We have a granddaughter who we want take with us, but her mother was loathe to let us put her in the front seat which was the only one that would hold a child seat.

We decided on a small A to get the additional storage space in a length about the same as a C.

I'll check in once in a while to see how you all are doing.

Peace, Dennis

the 213 was a motel kitchen room, the vista, a small apartment.

We looked at the 26HE when we were wanting to go bigger than the 213. It's a great deal, a lot of bang for the buck.
