Any Canadians out there that are in the south for the winter. Can you use Rogers or Bell in the US or do you have to get VERIZON for the internet access? If you get VERIZON can you use it when you return to Canada?

I've been tracking this thread for a couple of weeks and I think I've processed all the information, including what I've been able to get from Verizon customer support.

The one thing I was told by customer support that I'm not sure I've seen here is that I can only turn the broadband connect feature on-and-off once per billing period. This would mean that, if I needed it for two trips within a monthly billing period, I'd have to leave it on until the end of the second trip. Assuming this is the case, it would require some careful advance planning.

Is this true or is this another case of misinformation?

In case it's plan-related, I'm on the basic family plan and would be upgrading to an LG8360 in order to get the needed feature.

I think that statement is correct.. while customers are allowed to add or remove 'features' to their accounts. it can NOT be done multiple times 'for the same feature' in a monthly billing period, broad band access, texting, visual voicemail, vcast/vpak access etc..

only once per billing cycle, if you remove it you cannot add it again until the next billing cycle.


I can explain it to you.

I'm getting perplexed again (not confused, perplexed).

Stuart T is using an LG VX8630 to tether, Verizon customer service told me it would work for me but Verizon's online phone feature compare tool says that the 8630 doesn't have mobile broadband. So I accessed Verizon's online chat tool and queried the online rep as to whether or not I could tether with the 8630, who also said "no" and who provided me with the list below of ones I can use to tether.

What am I missing here? Why isn't the 8630 on the list? I was focusing on the 8630 since it would be "free" to me, has some favorable reviews and would be easy to transition to from my current LG phone. I don't want to order the wrong phone. I suppose I could go into the store but I get an add'l $50 off if I order online and I don't know if I'll get straight info from the store.

I'm tethering my Motorola V557 via Bluetooth to my Sony Vista laptop using a Kensington dongle. No ATT software.. just the Internet connection utility in Windows. Using the MediaNet data package. Won't be using it more than a couple months.

It works pretty good but sometimes either the computer or my phone needs to be rebooted. I think the Bluetooth connection gets confused.

I had to change from Friends and Family Calling Plan to Nationwide Basic Family Shared Plan. Not sure why but it was required.

Once again, I called customer service and reconfirmed that you can activate and cancel BBA multiple times in a billing period without charge. It is changing calling plans in the same period that they don't like. Verify at #611.

I stand corrected and realized my mistake after visiting my local Verizon store a few minutes ago. When they checked their info on the 8360 it did show as having the necessary feature. The store is telling me that the LG8360 is new to them and the online person may have been using an outdated list. The store had a display model but none in stock so I'm going back online, which I think will be the cheapest alternative.

I'll double-check on the multiple activation issue. It sure is frustrating to be getting so many conflicting stories from Verizon, especially when it might cost us so much for a mistake.

Well, I just ordered the LG VX8360 w/USB cable online. I did some checking of some other forums and found out that the Verizon stores are being told that they can't sell the 8360 until they've exhausted their stock of 8350s. I also got a better deal online through Verizonwireless.com.

As we've discussed here, the other forums confirm the functionality of the 8360 for tethering and that Verizon's online information to the contrary is incorrect. It's a bit strange that they have this wrong since the 8360 replaces the 8350 and the 8350 which is on their list for mobile broadband connect.

I'm assuming that Stuart is correct on the issue of being able to turn the mobile broadband connect feature on and off several times per and haven't tried to re-confirm it myself.

Thanks again to everyone for their help and patience as I worked through this. Hopefully I'll be able to post on a favorable experience with my new phone once I get it.

Verizon phone answerers are full of conflicting answers. I just hang up and call again and again and get different information each time. Somebody there must know what they are doing, but the must be several levels up.

this is very common, and a major 'gripe' topic on phone forums,

but when you consider all the issues a CS rep has too deal with, and the number of plans being offered and the wide range of plans offered in the past and still active on millions of accounts, it can be confusing for the CE reps trying to look things up on their computers.

there is just NO way for them to remember it all.
they have too look it up and some of it is not easy to verify
