Hi everyone! Say, this is my first time here, as if you wouldn't be able to tell. But anyway, just to save time: I'm a single woman and am about to take off on a camping trip alone. I bought a dome tent, an air bed, will be packing up the SUV and heading out of rainy Seattle. I'm heading South, wherever it warmer!
I haven't camped in 30 years or so, but want to start again
(I'm 60ish now!!!). I don't know anyone who wants to go, so I'm going alone. I have GPS, a cell phone, a laptop and the auto club! And my meager camping gear! Will get anything else needed along the way.
I'm excited to be getting out there. Any pointers for a newbie?

One good tip is to stop at McDonalds. They have free WIFI in most of their stores. Also, if you don't feel like cooking breafast, you can get a fairly decent cup of oatmeal & fruit & a "senior" coffee for about $2.70 [emoticon] Also, their Southwest Salad is not a bad option for lunch.

I also suggest you get a fantastic free APP if you have an iPhone or other smart phone (I think it also works in your laptop). It is called "Oh Ranger!". It is absolutely brilliant and will help you locate and find campgrounds near any city you specify. And these are the US and State parks too, not the commercial RV parks.

I just did a long road trip and used these things and they helped a lot! Be sure you practice with your tent and all your gear at home or on a short test trip before you find out the hard way what you forgot or need to know [emoticon]

Sorry, I just realize this is an old post. I hope all went well!

Hi there,
As you can see, I'm a newbie. Love camping with my hubby. Haven't been camping in a while but looking at doing some soon! Looked around and thought I'd join what appears to be a good and helpful site.
Cheers!

Hi there. I see you joined the forum. I joined back in May and went on a camping trip, as I described above. But there are not very many tent campers out there now, apparently.
Glad to see you joined, good luck with the camping.

Thank you tahoepat,

Well we can change that, by posting tips, recipes and all interesting camping experiences. And there are many other campers discussing various topics, and their stories are really very useful, I've found out many new things!

Have you been on that trip you mentioned?

Hi there. Yes, I did take my trip. Unfortunately, it was in early July and the whole dang country, especially the southwest and farther east where I wanted to go, was under a massive hot spell! And my purpose of the camping was to get to the sunshine....lol! But then I got worried about my car, and decided to camp in eastern WA, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and California. I found the sunshine! Great trip, but not as fun by myself as I thought it would be. Now I'm looking for a camping companion for next year so I can venture farther. I'll keep you posted!

I enjoy being by myself a lot, but yea, I think going completely solo might leave for some lonelier moments. I hope you find a good tenting companion! I love to tent camp, although now that I have the TT I don't do it as much, but i will never give it up completely!

Thank you for this addition. I am working on 'graduating' to RVing soon and have enjoyed camping in tents for many years.
It has been a few years since I was camping and had loaned out my tents prior to my last campout. I found numerous mold spots and some very tiny holes in my tents. Is there any way to fix these inexpensively or should I consider a new purchase?

This is my first posting. I haven't done any camping yet but I plan to take off from Iowa and head south in March, to places where it is warmer. My wife died recently and it was always a plan of ours to camp or RV in the south over the winter. This first trip I will take our dog and a minivan. We'll stay in camp grounds. If I enjoy this first trip I will probably get a pop-up trailer.

I am glad you made the distinction between camping, and RV'ING. Theres no such thing(in my book) as RV CAMPING. The day I set up my hammock, or tent in my living room, then I'll say I'm "Camping". [emoticon]
