Me too. Tent first then PUP. Love both. Tent camping is much more like camping.
Makes me think of Native American's way of life. Their way intrigues me sooo much. They did what they had to with nothing but their hands. Of course we have much more than they did, but tent camping gives a hint.
We primarily camp in the Popup, but love going back to the tent also. Keeps the experiences exciting. Makes us appreciate what each has to offer.

For myself tent camping is the only way of camping...a pleasure...a joy...brings back childhood memories...the challenge of making camplife easier and efficient is wonderful...like setting up housekeeping...never lasts long enough for me! Anyone out there remember Doheny State Beach campground BEFORE the harbor was put there to ruin it all? What a swell place!

We employ what I believe to be the best of both worlds. We have our TT on a permanent spot that we love and spend almost every weekend there from spring to fall (live in the city, to the country on the weekends!) and we still have our great tent camping set up that we use for jaunts to the mountains and beach. Saves the heck out of petrol.....and allows us to not lose the real camping experience...
I loved my coleman pop up but since we were doing the permanent spot thing we decided a hardsided TT made mroe sense...we were worried leaving the pop up raised all the time when we weren't there (fallen branches and such) but didn't like cranking it down just to leave it there...that didn't make much sense either. So the Jayco Jayflight came into our family...love it. But still love the tent experience.

Since I've been doing motorcycle roadtrips, tent camping is the way I go. I began with a fairly compact 3-man dome tent - easily carried on the bike, but mighty big for one camper!
So now, I'm simplifying and using a little 2.5lb Bivytent. Certainly tighter, But it does what I need it to do. My buddy calls it a "Bodybag with a view" - hehehe.
If we're going to be staying in one spot for a few days, I'll use the bigger dome tent. Got a big rally coming up locally, and that's what I'll do.
