I still tent camp on occasion and I'm in my 60's. The DW sometimes works on weekends and instead of taking our TT I'll just take my small tent. Usually I go check out some campground I've never been to before. Then I decide if I want to tow the TT up some steep rough road and it gives me a chance to really check things out.

We have two RV friends who are going to Winterhaven CA in DEC. and want us to go along. We only have a tent, I can't find anyplace nearby we can camp. We use to tent camp and then tent trailer when the kids were small, now we are in our 70's and want to get out but tenters are treated as gypsyies. If anyone knows of a camping site with electricity for a medical device I use or know of anyone who would want to rent us a trailer or RV for a week, please get in contact. FYI we believe in leaving everything better then we found it. Ps Not from Yuma and can't seem to get it change. I am from Southern Utah New Harmony area. that is near Cedar City and ST. George Utah.

I started camping in tents in the Boy Scouts, pop-ups with the family, tents with the canoes, tents with the touring motorcycle, tents with backpacking, bigger travel trailers, but we still enjoy the different type of camping with tents. Wont give up the Jayco 26BHS, but still go tent camping when the mood strikes.

Still have and use my tent and tent camping equipment, can't pack a TT or popup in a canoe. Won't loan out any gear anymore though, other people just don't take care of what isn't theirs.

Much like many here, we have gone full circle with our camping. We began family camping in tents in about 1981, then over the years we went to pop-up, hardside, Class C motorhome, Class A motorhome - then back to pop-up and finally where we are now, 25 years later and back in tents.
We haul all our camping gear on a 4x8 utility trailer (with 2ft. sides) behind our Ford Explorer. Love it. It's good to be back tent camping. All the other stuff ... been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Since you are from West Palm Beach, you most know John Prince State Park. Would you camp there in a tent mid january to mid march?

Just Joined this Open Road Forum, so I'm a Newbee.
Have been reading some of the Tenting Posts. Now I don't feel like I've gone off the deep end anymore. I'm an Oldtimer (70s)and like others have said. Started out camping as a boy, just out under the stars. Joined the Boy Scouts and started tent camping. Tent camped in the US Army too - LOL. Later Tent camped as the kids were coming along (four).
Upgraded to an Apache popup for a number of years. Sold it and went back to tent camping (a big canvas one). Towed an aluminium fishing boat, and could throw everything in the boat. Was simple to load and unload. Usually camped first two weeks when school let out for the Summer (usually in Oklahoma).
After kids were all gone, over the years, bought several different popups and small TTs to use. Finally, retired and bought a big TT. Liked it so much, decided to leave the apartment and live full-time in Travel Trailer. Pulled TT off to the mountains some and up North (kinda) some. Then Gasoline cost began to be a costly factor in pulling a big rig. So last September bought a nice little popup to do my annual mountain camping thing. Just got back from a 21 day trip thru West Texas, thru New Mexico, to Tucson AZ and back thru NM and finally back to East Texas.
I discovered that I'm too old to be cranking popup up and down and rigging unit or stowing unit down everyday (especially in Summer heat and at altitude too). Other than exaustion tho, had a good trip.
But this got me to longing for the simple tent camping again. Its so easy after a long days drive, to wheel into a State Park tent site and flip out the pop-tent over in the shade, throw in the air matress and bed-roll, and you're done. I tried a little tent camping last year (in June). Was OK, had a little medical problem and cut trip short.
But now am seriously going to give this tent camping another shot. Still got all my tenting gear. May take a couple weeks run up thru Arkansas and back around the end of September.
