Hello, just saw this. I just got back from a two month journey. I camp partly in an 8' cargo trailer I have outfitted with solar, batteries, bed and top line rv fan. And partly in tents. This trip I couch surfed a bit with old friends and relatives and bagged occasional motel rooms due to extreme heat.
I visited Oklahoma Western Museum, Red Rock Canyon then on to NM. Rode the tram, explored the Grants area. Then up to Montana, it snowed in mid May. Spent time in Red Lodge and Bozeman. Got a private room in a hostel in down town where dogs were welcome. Nice to just walk out the door and explore, eat at good restaurants.
Camped in the mountains in Idaho near the Payette, enjoyed hot springs, down to Lewiston, camped at Elks Lodge(fantastic view!). At some point I visited Wallace, Idaho, cool old town.Stayed with old friends in Boise area then off to Reno to cousins(hence the couch surfing). Off to Utah.Watched cars speeding around the Salt Flats. Stayed with grand niece in Park City, explored the local roads over to the Lake side and rode tram at Snowbird.
Then up to explore east side of Idaho, my favorite place Lava Hot Springs. Nice little town, still has a few Mom and Pop restaurants, awesome hot springs everywhere.
Yellowstone, Tetons and didn't experience any crazy crowds. Who knew.
Thermopolis Wyoming, drove over one of the prettiest and most interesting mountain passes with lots of dispersed camping and elk herds galore!
By that time I was exhausted and blew to Ohio to join the IBEW Reunion put on by traveling electricians every year. Big campout of over 1000 wireman/ladies and families. Then home to NH.
I love being retired so I don't have to rush down the road so I can get hired on a job and pass some good sights. Now I stop. And stop again! It was a great trip this year!

I car camped all over Northern CA this summer, and now 7 of the 9 parks I visited are closed due to fire with only the coastal parks remaining open. :-( There's talk of banning all fires outside of a campground, and even some campgrounds will have limitations.

Still did some epics hikes, including Cinder Cone in Lassen Volcanic NP.

Great photo of Cinder Cone. A number of years ago I worked as a campground host at Lassen NP. There was an encroaching fire that year and we had to evacuate all the campers and visitors to the Park. The closure only lasted a day or so, but it's frightening. I hope the current wildfire doesn't destroy the campground, and spares the Park.

Thanks

I camped at Eagle Lake, since the campground closest to Cinder Cone had no water (they were working on the pumps), so I stayed outside of Susanville, very close to where the fires are now. I have a number of friends and colleagues up there now feeding the firefighters. It's such a tragedy.

Hey Folks. Just got back from Schoodic Penninsula, Maine. Awesome dark skies. The Milky Way was tremendous!
