Hey, All! Bought my 1978 Dodge Delta in the middle of last summer and took it out 3-4 times dry camping. Am so excited to get going this year and learn all I can about my "Golden Oldie"! Have been reading all the info I can find and am on overload now. Can't wait to see Leroy's aka 1978_Dodge_Delta. I read about his RV on other websites. Anyway, last year I just wanted to get out and didn't care or pay to much attention to things I know I should have. Am going to start tomorrow and work my way from nose to tail, top to bottom and outside to inside making a list of things to be fixed. Reading the Open Roads Forum, I did learn there are things I never would have thought to check. Sure you all will be hearing a lot more from me in the coming weeks. Happy Travels Everyone!!

alleykatz,

Here is another item to add to your list.

Replace the plastic windshield wiper bushings. You will have to remove the panel under the windshield to do this. The bushings in my '79 were completely disintegrated. They come in packages of 2 and you will need 2 packages (Dorman 49440, Wiper Linkage Bushings).

There are also two tubing connectors that connect the windshield washer tubing sections right at the base of the wiper blades. They should be replaced also. I don't know if you can get exact replacements at the dealer--I just used straight connectors that I got at an auto parts store.

And, replace your wiper blades and get a spare set of wiper blades while you are at it.

Better to fix them now, than have them go out when you are on the road.

It is a bad deal when the wiper linkage bushings go bad mine jump out two times before I found a decent replacement part. The first ones I bought from AutoZone wouldn't lock in properly so I purchased some from the dodge dealer. So far so good .

I do remember the bushings being hard to lock--I think I used pliers. You sure don't want them coming loose in a rainstorm.

Been there done that
It ain't much better when it's not raining and the wind catches them. The drivers side goes completely off the windshield.
Don't know about anyone else but there's enough air being forced down by the cabover bunk that I don't need wipers unless it's raining pretty hard.

Does anyone else have the Bargman lighted grab handle by the door? Apparently they have discontinued them and no longer make the replacement lense. Just wondering if anyone here had experienced this problem yet? My lense has a hole in it and unfortunately the handle is recessed so getting rid of it isn't an option.
I did find one online for $125 and yes that is for the plastic lense only.

Phantom59,

In most auto parts stores you can find lens repair kits. They won't make it look new but they will seal the hole so it doesn't leak.
