Trish Davis wrote: See, I can't balance properly, rt foot refuses to be more than a kickstand. I love shotguns, they are so subtle. Drive home, I kept saying "what if this is IT" to my son. He's optomistic by nature, but also fed up with me being a cripple (so am I), so Dan said if it comes to it, he will finish the Travco himself. Oh, sure, that's right up there with me posting pictures. Well, Trish... Thank God you've got "kickstand" capability. At least, you're vertical. And, you're NOT a cripple. The fat gal with the nice Viking helmet and spear in hand AIN'T SUNG YET. You are still Trish, in every last sense. Maybe a bit wobbly, but you still have your wit, and it's still as sharp as a razor. With my neuropathy like it is, and a bum right knee that will buckle if not "locked up" (WARN 4WD really NEEDS to go into the LOCKING KNEE business!) I wind up sprawling sometimes, in spite of a cane or a walker. But I have diabetes and neuropathy- it doesn't have me. Kinda like the joke about fat vs ugly, and weight can be lost, but ugly has to be surgically fixed so it's worse. Long story short, I ain't done yet. I'll keep going even if I have to get the ol' "lower end" rebuilt, or I get a nice shiny robotic one with a chromed butt. I love shotguns too. Whether tactical or "turkey kicker". My nephew and I got out our rifles the other day, and sighted them all in for Bambi season here. My .50 cal. blackpowder "smokepole" knocked me flat of my butt when I fired it, and me and the nephew laughed past hurting over that! There still is humor in infirmity. When I'm using my walker out in public I've been known to occasionally release an "air biscuit" and blame it on my neuropathy lol... When someone teases me about wearing a dinner napkin like a bib when I'm eating, I apologize and say that since my doc adjusted the doses of my "Parkinsons" medicines, I don't make as big a mess as I used to. The the YF tells on me later- that I don't have Parkinsons, I'm just mentally ill. And my Tourettes still manifests (vocal tics) when I'm behind the wheel!! Whether the vehicle is moving or not. Don't give up, hon. There's still PLENTY of folk to MESS WITH, out there in this big old goofy world, and they're very willing to overlook your madness if you're packing a cane, or up on a power chair lol... now if you were "up on two legs without assistance" you might get arrested, so have some fun, and antagonize. Think about this- when I worked in hospitals I remembered those little old ladies that would come in, have some ghastly major surgery with a BIG incision line. As soon as the anesthesia wore off, they would bravely struggle to get themselves all coiffured up, made up and fixed up, then their ignorant little husbands thought they should be at home, and would get them discharged to home, stitches and all! I repeatedly told them- "Stay in bed, whine a lot and purposely look like hell. You'll never have a better chance at getting everyone fetching and stepping for you." Tomorrow ain't gonna tip her hand and show her cards anytime soon. And nothing is carved in stone until you're six feet under. And you isn't there yet, girlfriend... We want you here too much. So there. If you do post some pics, laugh at 'em too! your little fat buddy, Mark "whiteknight001" 1972 Mobile Traveler 20' Dodge B300 Class C "The Kobayashi Maru" Trans- Prarie Land Craft "Requiescat in pace et in amore..." |

I'd purposely walk everywhere as I could, for as long as I could. Everything I could record into my memory, and my camera's memory, would be there forever. Come evening, I'd wander into a pub and turn up more than my share of pints, then return to where ever I was staying, and sleep like I haven't in a long long time. My maternal grandmother's family came from Ireland, County Cork. I was raised by her, and I miss her to this day. If I ever went there, or in Scotland, I would probably never return. Trish, after my last set of surgeries, I could not move either legs, nor feel them. I was in a wheel chair for 6 months before some feeling started coming back, then I could move them some, then up with a walker. Next came the quad-cane, then just a cane. Now I'm up, not running mine you, but I ride my Quad all over the place. I just completely rebuilt the roof and did some remodeling of the RV. Still looking for other things that need done. So don't give up just yet, as I said before, it will just take time for the nerves to reconnect. Your not done healing yet! Blessings, Mark "whiteknight001" Mark, Now, I love Co Wicklow, it IS that gorgeous. But if you think you can wander along Greystones beach, forget it! If the tide doesn't get you, the fishermen will. And the Irish Sea is *c*o*l*d* Not a bit chilly, might warm up sort of cold, but the "Oh holy god, 2 minutes and I've got hypothermia, and it's June so whynhell are all these crazy Irish people lying in the sun at 70F" That kind of cold. Salmon fishermen come in every morning about 10am. Cold water grows big fish. Buy salmon at 10, poach it at 1, and eat up. It's Ireland, everything is boiled, fried or poached. I love the place, only Nova Scotia is nearly as pretty. But to live? No. The EU austerity measures (taxed taxes) make the cash we've shelled out for our bank bailouts look like my daughter's weekly allowance. Where in Cork? I loved Cork City. My mother said I was "uncivilized" because she couldn't abide the accent. Scotland's even worse --the food and the accents. *g* |

Healing, that is. 5 months out and I gotta tell you, a cane is not the accessory Hugh Laurie makes it out to be. How long, then... 2 years, 7 years, 6 more months. When can I do (ab)normal things again? Like climb up my roof and pick up things that weigh more than my cat. Well, yeah,. this IS patient, for me. Dan keeps saying I could be worse. My son's right, but the neurosurgeon who trained my neurosurgeon got James Harrison playing football again --after 2 back surgeries! |
