If I have the history correct, Dodge made a few motorhomes in the 50's. Unlike most motorhomes, where the chassis is built by Dodge and the coach is built by someone else, these early prototypes were built entirely by Dodge. The idea was, of course, ahead of its time and, around 1960, Dodge sold/spun off the production to a group that soon became Travco. According to my buddy, an old-timer he knows has a very old motorhome he wants to get rid of. The motorhome has a 1953 VIN and a slant-six engine, two facts that match what I understand of the history. It's been a few years since my buddy saw it but he says it doesn't look like a conversion and appears to have been originally built as a motorhome. Next week, we're going out there and look at it. The first thing I'm going to do is try to determine if it's original or a conversion. My buddy also says the guy has an old Army-type tracked vehicle with a flathead inline eight cylinder Cadillac engine in it ... gotta love the weird things some of these Alaskan old-times have accumulated. Griff, please get photos- even of the CadCrawler!! Up until now the Frank rigs were the oldest known Dodge-based rigs. This may be something quite unique, and if it is truly a factory built motorhome then it would predate the GM Motorhome by at least two decades... your senile old friend Mark "whiteknight001" Yes, I intend to take pictures of both .... and may be 'rescuing' the motorhome. My buddy can't figure out why it blew my mind ... or why I got excited when he told me about it. I'm trying to talk him into rescuing the CadCrawler. 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in. Oh, and, yes Trish, I have been following your situation ... I just haven't commented because it reminds me of my pain situation and what I may have to go through sometime in the future. I'm glad to hear it has apparently gone well. My prayers have been and are with you ... and the nurses and doctors who are enduring your pleasant personality ... just don't run over any other patients in the recovery ward.

Just heard from Trish. The base of her spine hurts too much to sit up, so she's still in bed. The stitches (all 11) are driving her crazy. She is home, by the way - and has been for a while. |

Ugh..... sorry to hear that hope she better soon. Finally got to go camping this past weekend. Whoo Hoo...! That's the good news. Got ready to come home and we had starting problems. AGAIN. Looks like the SECOND Ignition Module went bad. Good thing I keep the original 30+ year melted module around as THAT one seems to be reliable? wow... what evah. (I'm ready to throw it back to them at the parts store) |
