Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Mortland on 11/06/10 08:54pm

I am almost zero mechanicly inclined, very poor, i need to move this rv at least once a week. The ppl at the auto parts stores dont seem to know what there doing and you all do. And when i went to napaonline it has no choices i see after selecting 1978 and dodge for anything that resembles my m400 chassis no f40 no m300 they all look like selections for cars.

We all have to start learning somewhere, sometime.

You can't look it up by make, model, and year. Very few systems, online or in a local store, will have any listing for these older, less common vehicles. A few really good parts store counter people know how to push themselves away from the keyboard and look it up in their books.

The best way is to find a part number, either off the actual part or do as Leeann did and look it up in a catalog, and use that the parts store's interchange listing to find their equivalent part.

In the NAPAOnline case, click advance search, say 'No' when it asks if you're looking for a part for a specific vehicle, and enter the part number Leeann listed in the box labelled 'Interchange.'

On most online sites, entering a vehicle make, model, and year will screw up totally any chance of finding the parts you're looking for.

im going to watch very closely griff when my friend does this, i agree im just ina really bad situation where everything that could go wrong has. No job, a one year old (tommorow's his bday) a girl due in feb losing my job almsot no money (unemployment) winter coming, and cant figure out how to get the battery, and gas furnace and ect to run in this thing its already cold enough being 35 at night i can't imagine how bad next month when it gets below zero will be. ect. ect. Not to shoot out a sob story i just dont want to mess this up, I need the rv to be able to move every week or so so that the city dosent fine me for living in it. Here its agenst city code to live ina rv and it is our ONLY choice, no shelters, money assistance, nothing is available here. And hopefully when tax season comesan get out of here and i can find a better job or maybe even pay some ol' trucker with a patient heart to re teach me how to drive a truck. (I have my class a cdl, ironical as it is)..
Im just a worried guy i may be 26 here on the 20th but it seems as if the world is all on me and i have no idea what im doing.. So if you all can belive it, with all this stress and just a little light you all have given me you guys have really really helped me and i cant tell you how much i (and my family) apperciate it.

My name is Corey and i live in idaho falls idaho and we recently bought a 78 dodge brougham rv and are having issues with finding information on it.
I was hoping you all could possibly share with us (my wife and i) on how to run it? We had to buy it cause i got laid off from my job and have no where else to live and we have a 1 year old and another on the way and really needed this so were very thankfull we found it for such a good price.

We cannot figure out how to switch this to battery power and or how to charge the battery for the rv. It has a battery ina compartment to the right of next to where the generator should be but someone took the generator before we go it. We just have it connected to a outside power source for electricity. there is a big black cord witch i understand is the shore line under the stove, there under the stove is a silver inverter and a biege breaker box. there is a outlet that looks like you would plug the shoreline into it and a outlet with two standard plugs on it. one of witch has a plug in it witch goes to the inverter.. I dont understand the whole thing. someone told me that i need to plug the shore line intothat plug that is next to the breaker box that looks like the dryer plug.
Also i hhave been trying to find breaks for the front since it's ground the old brake pads down to the rotors just about and cant find a parts number or breaks anywhere. I have figured out somehow that it is on MB400 chassis and ours has duals in the rear. Im just curious if you can tell me how this all runs and give me any information you can share on how to run this rv. Do you know if it has a hot water heater?.. Please any information would be really helpfull!

We are living in this thing now full time and with winter coming i would really like to get the brake pads on there and figure this rv out. It already really cramped and kind of depressing but i know getting it running better and everything working would make everything a lot easier! My vin is f44cf8v719172 if any one can decode and tell me any more information as that i have called auto zone checkers and local rv dealership and even Dodge customer service and they all EVEN DODGE dont know anything!
This might help explain how everything works with your 120/12 volt system, Hope this helps you get an Ideal how it works.
How the converter/charger works with battery and shore power.

Yes that really did help! You are awsome, and that gave me a better understanding of how everything kind of works. Noting the date the video was made im assuming you origonaly posted that for me, and again thank you.. Im sure others will benifet from it aswell but to know you took the time to post that just formyself it;s awesome thank you.. Now i know that the lights should just come on when not on shore power provided the battery is charged.. Thanks and sorry i havent been able to reply back. Today was my sons first birthday and i have been running around trying to get money for presents and cake ect.. Anyways
I dont have a breaker box like that.. Under my stove is that power converter and the breaker box only has two breaker switches on it.. Maybe tomorrow ill trying getting a better look and maybe a video for you all to see. I still dont know where my fuse box is. on the drivers side of the rv under the couch but outside is two boxes or "closets" one big one with 2 standard wall plug ins in it on the left side and on the right side a silver box that looks like it should have plug ins but instead a little light switch witch turns a pump on that shoots gas all over the place in there from a severed hose.. Witch i gathered used to house a generator. but is now occupied by a tool box. To the right of that closet is a smaller one with a single battery in it... So i guess i have more exploring to do with this.. Hopefully ill figure it all out soon enough
