Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Let me know if the pictures didn't post....I think I did it right, but can't see them from here, something about my 'preferences'. I cut and pasted the image code, thought that was how it worked.

Well, anyway, hoping everyone has a wonderful day![emoticon]

Thanks, good to know I got the photobucket thing down.

A couple of questions I didn't see addressed in the previous pages:

Do these 440-3 motors have iron timing gears, or did they use the 'silent' nylon cam sproket?

Does anyone happen to have the Helwig part #'s for sway bars that fit this chassis?

The rot repair on this thing is going to be challenging, If cost wasn't an object, I think I'd lift the roof and start over, move the door behind the wheelwell, mount my toolboxes accessible from the outside, etc. Pipe dreams......

It did come with a generator, an Onan, non-starting at the moment, but I have a Kohler here that fit right in the compartment, as well as an old military (12K) unit, that I might mount on the rear. Not quite sure yet what my power demands might be, as I have another A/C unit that is destined to be used over the bedroom area.

Great rig! Guy just down the road from me full-times in an Overland Class A, approx. same vintage.

We got ours for $410 on eBay. it was worth it for the 440 & 727, forget the 4kw Onan CCK. i have links to Onan manuals if you let me know what model/spec yours is.

I haven't looked at mine yet, but I'll look in my manual in a sec. I *think* it's iron, but...

According to the repair manual, the cam sprocket is aluminum, it says the rearward camshaft thrust is taken by the rear face of the cam aluminum sprocket hub, bearing directly on the front of the cylinder block, eliminating the need for a thrust plate.

Might want to double-check the "440-3" designation...just in case...
From the bulk of the stuff I've read, and from the marking on my valve covers ('76 Dodge Sportsman), the 440-1 is used in trucks. It seems that the 440-3 is used in mainly industrial applications...water pumps, generators, etc. At the same time, I've also read in a couple of places that '79-up used 440-3 types. Differences in water passages, valve covers, intake gaskets, water pump gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and a few other things. I mention it because a punk kid at the local parts store tried to sell me gaskets for a 440-3 that I knew wouldn't fit my 440-1. He got his a$$ handed to him by the older gent behind the counter that obviously knew better...all because the only thing the kid knew was what the monitor in front of him said...which was wrong.

My '73 is a 440-3 and is so designated in the VIN number. Mine is a Class A, however.

I will have to check mine, I'm not for sure, But its not in the vin # this one starts off F44CD9V70885 and so on.[emoticon]

Maybe that's the main difference...Class A vs. Class C.
