Can you tell me more about the Maxx Air installation? It may sound silly, but I'm curious as all the mounting hardware seems to be for 14" vents, and the older vents are all 9".

Pics are always welcome. [emoticon]

My vents are all 14" [emoticon]

Anyway, Maxx Air says it covers all vents up to 14" x 14"...

Really? I could swear a friend of mine in the Industry said they didn't use 14" until sometime in the 80's. Dang... either way, mine are all 9"

I'll look into the Max Air's...

Edit

looking at the site, it says it fits "most" 14x14 vents. Says nothing about 9x9 vents, nor do I see where it says "up to". I sent an e-mail.

Another update... finally found this on their site.

"
Maxxair FAQ Detail

I have small vents. Do you offer various sizes? If so what are they?

All of our vents are made for 14"X14" roof openings. We are not sure what you mean by "small", but if you wish to send us a photo of your roof area and some dimensions, perhaps we can be of further help. "

Dang....I think I actually saw the 'up to' on a retailer's site. Hope they can help you...

Eyeteeth,

On MaxxAir's site you will find a diagram showing how they are mounted. They use an L-bracket to attach to the sidewall of the vent. I would think you could easily adapt the brackets to your 9in vents by using a tubular spacer (2.5 inches long) on each side and a longer screw (3 inches). You could make the spacers out of any small metal tubing with a large enough inside diameter for the screw to fit into.

Just wanted to say hi! We purchased a 1977 Dodge Brougham (w/440) this past December, and looking forward to camping season! We call it the Green Machine, and it looks identical to one of the members RV here. Don't recall which forum member, but they have the lime green paint job as well.

Even with the leaks we're happy with it so far, and it only has 25K miles on it. I see a roof and window caulking project in the future. We've been busy on the interior replacing the dry rot etc, installing the sound system, replacing the water pump, and the list goes on! Dreaming about a air conditioning/generator installation as well. Thanks for all the great info!

Welcome!

A note on your window caulking project...do NOT use silicone. It shrinks and becomes useless too quickly - and it's usually why you have to fix what a previous owner (PO) has done. Use the stuff made for that purpose, whether you get it online or from an RV dealer. Or use 3M 4200.

I will measure my vents, I think they were the smaller one, and everything bolted right up no problems. Everything was slotted big time for this.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice! I would have made a big mistake without it. [emoticon]

You wouldn't be the first - nor would you be the last [emoticon]
