Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: ALnCORY on 03/17/09 09:29am

mbryanr,
Welcome, I have a 74 Brougham that I have been fixing up as well. I had to reseal many places on mine as well including all the drip rail and several windows, vents etc. I just bought several rolls of putty tape(fairly cheap) and pulled out the window or whatever, cleaned it up applied putty tape and reset with new screws. Didn't take long and was nice to get it water tight again.
Like Leeann said, avoid silicone, many of the places I had to fix had silicone globbed all over them from previous leaks. It is also really hard to clean up the old silicone so just avoid using it for leaks.
Congrats on the new (to you ) rig.... happy camping

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

I don't recommend the old style putty tape. The newer butyl tape is much stickier and it doesn't dry out like the old stuff.

I also seal the edges with either Dicor or ProFlexRV caulking. It looks nicer, helps seal, and prevents the black mold that grows on the exposed tape.

Well, I know I owe people some pictures and I will get to that.

I did more work last night, the bathroom is ready for the new paneling, plastic, vinyl whatever it is. Last panel for the ceiling goes up on Friday. Hopefully the bath room gets done this weekend too.

TV antenna was removed from the roof and covered over with aluminum and anorobic caulk. Also coat #1 of 3 of the rubber paint was put down on Tuesday. This weekend I will get the other two coats on. It only have to be above 40 for this paint that my neighbor the commercial roofer hooked me up with. Some rubber paint product by Firestone, supposed to be good for life. At least if installed by a liscensed roofer it has a lifetime warrenty, which I don't get in this case, but it's good to know that product is stood behind like that.

I need to figure out what to do for a TV antenna now, but not sure I want anymore holes in the roof.

AARrrrgh...

I finally got the RV back from the shop the other day. (Reminder) The brakes had gone out on our last camping trip last year. Not something I wanted to mess with. One of those things you REALLY want to work...

Anyway, I brought it in last November, got it back in January, and they weren't fixed right, so I had to bring it back. I JUST got it back... and my expensive Trojan coach battery is split wide open.... arrrrgh.

overdrive75 - were you still interesting in getting rid of the pod or have you done so already.

overdrive: yes, pictures! Now, now now! I wanna see [emoticon]

eyeteeth: oh, man....what a pain. Personally, I'd be talking to the service manager. 'Cause it happened while under their protection and you couldn't do anything about it. And I'd be talking to them about cleaning up the area around it so any potential acid spill doesn't destroy your coach.

OD-- You had better send Leeann some pictures. Trust me on this...

Pass on putty and butyl tape and use Eternabond. Trust me on this one, too.
Besides, Leeann turned me on to it.

Vents, huh. Travco's 16x16 and the Avion had a 13x13 Hehr vent.

Eye - yes I still have the pod, it's yours whenever you want it.

Leann I will see what I can do about some pictures, but it't not going to happen tonight.

Trish I have not used any putty, butyl tape or Eternabond. My neighbor is a forman for rooffing company that does exclusivally industrial roofs. I have all kinds of cool calks and sealants from him. Stuff the general public cannot buy. I am putting a rubber roof on and it came in a 5 gallon pail. So good stuff here.

Also here is a link to my webshots, some RV pics in there, just none of the rehab of finished areas yet. http://community.webshots.com/user/excalibur31os

Leanne

Yea... I've been on the phone... a lot... no go. They feel bad... but aren't willing to do anything. I wouldn't be near as put out, if I asked them to store it. It was sitting there because they never got around to it. [emoticon]

Overdrive75 - that's awesome.. Thanks.

I see you're over on the other side of the state. I don't know what you're schedule is. Mine just fell through for the weekend. (not happy... long story) But we're heading to Florida beginning of April. Hate to ask you to store it for terribly long... or meet me halfway... but what is your schedule like? I might be able to make the trip as early as this weekend.

Hey Trish!

Are you still looking for Travco parts? There is a 1967 unit for a grand (complete) on Madison Craigs List...[emoticon]

I'm still waiting for the weather to break so I can attack the top end of my engine. Ah yes, the old "Hurry up and wait"....

She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!
