Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Eyeteeth,

>>Yea... I remember that, but because of the sound, I'm not yet going down that path.

The sound was probably the metal crossbar banging around in the chamber. When the bushings come apart (mine disinegrated), the bar will just detach from the two wiperblade arms but still be attached to the wiper motor. This would make a fair amount of noise I would guess. You will be able to see this through the vents.

goreds,
We just threw ours away and my wife is making new ones, but years ago we borrowed a mt home and we washed the cushions in it as they were quite dusty. We washed them on delicate and I think we air dried them. They did shrink slightly but stretched out when we put them back on. Hope that helps.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

Thanks, I got another suggestion to wash them inside/out so they may stretch a little upon putting them back to normal.

The bar came totally off. It's not connected to anything and just laying there. Are there any retaining clips used to hold the bar on? I'm still not convinced the bushings went bad. Not ruling it out... I just don't think that's it. (yet)

Gee, you're a hard sell. The bushings (nylon, I think) are what hold the crossbar to the individual wiper arms. I guess they might better be called "bushings/connectors." There is one one each end. If the bar is disconnected, then the bushings fell apart--just like mine. The crossbar should still be connected to the motor (near the center). This connection is all metal so it is unlikely that it came apart, although it could happen.

Also... Just pushing the new bushing in place when putting the them on the arms and then connecting the arms together won't work. Use a pair of Channel Lock pliers and squeeze the connection together until it "clicks" into place.

You can push it together by hand an it will work fine until you really need it (don't ask how I know [emoticon]). It's really a PIA to have to take that cover plate off on the side of the road to do it right. [emoticon]

Wiper Linkage Bushings,

When buying, remember it takes 4 pcs (two packages) for the complete system on a Sportsman MB van. Some multi packaged bushings will not work. The DORMAN 49440 is the correct item number and they come two to a package. As they say 'don't leave home without them' better yet, just change them now. They are poly and fall apart with age. Much like the old body. [emoticon]

Are you saying that there are two pieces for each bushing? So, one package is for one end of the crossbar only?

The wiper system is made of several bars connected with the use of 4 bushings. Kinda hard to see when you look through the vent. My first thought was only one bushing needed to be replaced. What a surprise when I got into the repair and replacement of the bushings.

Old & Slow,

I went out a looked at my system again, and contrary to a previous statement I made, and as you say, there are two bars--one connected to the other, so yes I also need 4 bushings. Thanks for the clarification.

And I agree with you, everyone should replace these--before they fail during a rainstorm while you are on the road.
