Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Fezziwig on 08/26/08 07:35pm

Maybe it's a bad idea to use adhesives with mystery solvents in the closed space of an RV. Just a thought. Remember all that trouble with he FEMA trailers full of formaldehyde fumes? What's a good adhesive that sets instead of dries? Epoxy is pretty good, except it is hard to apply to flat surfaces. Also, it's kinda lumpy, tho I think you can get a two-part epoxy that works like water (they sell it at Boat Shops because it will intrude on rot and freeze it in place).

Contact Cement?

Posted By: Kendas on 08/26/08 09:32pm

Locktite Maximum Strength Headliner Adhesive (P/N 37312) Can says it bonds foam, carpet, fabrics, plastics, rubber, etc. Resistant to extreme weather conditions, water resistant.

It's a contact cement in a spray can. Being a contact cement it requires some "drying" time before pressing surfaces together. Can says it will attack some plastics so it needs to be tested first. Autozone and CSK stores should have it.

I can verify that it works on wood paneling and fabric (I had to reattach fabric covering to ceiling after removing the original contact paper that a PO just covered with the fabric. I had some over spray on some hard plastics (different types), that didn't seem to harm them... Just rubbed the adhesive off of the items after it dried. [emoticon]

More toys for the class C... Got the Firestone air springs I ordered from JC Whitney 10 days ago today... Read the instructions, checked the underside of the house to make sure that the instructions matched the underside (they do). You would hope that they did. [emoticon]

Guess what I'm doing this weekend? [emoticon]

Finally got to the air spring install. Not too bad, but you do have to drill a couple of holes in the frame on the Dodge class Cs. Being old and crippled it took a day and a half... One day to do the left side and half a day for the right (learned what not to do on the left side [emoticon]). Sits much more level than it did.

No Leeann, I did not take pictures (like I keep asking for)... Still in the mid to high 90s and with the tropical storm in the Gulf of California the RH is above 60%. Energy expenditure to use a camera after holding up an drill/driver was too much for the body.

Ken, that's why you're supposed to have a helper [emoticon]

I want pics of 'em installed...and I wanna know how they feel, too. Dangit.

Contact cement was not recommended for my material. In the space I am working using contact cement would not work well as I have to kind of work the material into the space and move it around a little to get it in place. Contact cement doesn't allow for sliding around. I will be using contact cement on the countertops though as it is perfect for formica application. I have put some silicone calk on a couple of pieces of the vinyl and placed them on some scrap paneling and I will see if it reacts and if it sticks good enough...

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

LeeAnn? how did you know your black tank was abs? I see at least one crack on the top corner of my tank. It is a plastic but I am not sure what type. Wondering what to try and use to fix the crack... anyone know if there is a place to see what kind of tanks manufacturers used in different years? It looks like the kind of tanks that we used on Kit Companion travel trailers in the late 70's but I don't know what kind of plastic that was either... (should have spent more time talking to the guys in plumbing... who knew!)

Sam is an HVAC master and recognized it on sight...and to confirm, we checked the coach service manual which says it is ABS [emoticon]

What coach do you have (again)?

Helper? What's that? I can't even get free help for yard work. [emoticon]

Well the thing doesn't feel anything like it did going around corners. doesn't feel nearly like it's going to "turn turtle" on me like it did before. Ride is a bit harsher, but I don't have it fully trip "loaded" so I can't give a real answer yet.

Okay... I'll get some pictures of them installed as soon as the body recovers a bit (maybe this weekend). [emoticon]

That's a major improvement, even if the ride is a little harsher. I think I'd make that tradeoff.

Good [emoticon]

How much were they, if you don't mind me asking?
