Oh, sounds like fun to me ![]() We have a boat race - outboard hydros and runabouts. Always fun...even better, the town of Lock Haven has their carnival at the same time - on purpose. And the beer tent's on our side of the river ![]() We used Loctite epoxy that specifically said it works on ABS, since our tank is ABS plastic. None of the other plastic epoxies said they worked with ABS and some even said they would not. We'll see if we got it with this stuff. If not, we have a plastic welding kit as a next resort. Eye, I will let you know how it comes out. I used these pure vinyl sheets I found as they were flexible, easy to cut and I could put them right over the paneling that was already in my shower area. Except for the reaction to the adheasive it was a great idea. I think I am going to try a trial using the silicone tub and tile calk. It would work like an adhesive and hopefully not buckle the material. I think if you use the hardboard with the tile pattern on one side then a construction adheasive would work fine and not react to the hardboard. I will use a scrap piece of my material and attach it to a piece of scrap plywood with the silicone and see what happens. I will let you know....
I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere! |

AlnCory, > I used these pure vinyl sheets I found as they were flexible, easy to cut and I could put them right over the paneling that was already in my shower area. Keep in mind that silicon needs moisture to cure (just moisture in the air). In your case you are going to sandwich it between two waterproof sheets, so it may take quite some time to cure. Unfortunately, other adhesives cure by solvent evaporation so I don't know that they would be much better. Epoxies are self curing and thus don't require moisture or evaporation, but they are brittle when cured and may not stand up to the flexing in a RV. There are some spray on adhesives (some used in the auto industry) that remain tacky after the solvent evaporates. One of these might work. |

Thanks Treeseeker, I will experiment with a couple of things before I proceed. When I looked at it last night, it wasn't as bad as I initially thought so I may not have to rip it all out and start over. But I will use another adhesive type that is for certain.

AlnCory, >When I looked at it last night, it wasn't as bad as I initially thought so I may not have to rip it all out and start over. It may just be that the solvent in the adhesive caused the vinyl to swell (because the vinyl absorbed the solvent). Over time the solvent will vaporize through the vinyl and the swelling may vanish. Putting a fan on it may help hasten the vaporization of the solvent. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hate it when stuff like that happens. |

Thanks again Tree, It will work and hold water and all that as it is... just trying to decide if it will look acceptable. Not to put too much on looks instead of function, but when you fix something up you would like it to look nice, and it did until it started to dry... learned a good lesson though, do a trial before I put it on for real... thanks again for your suggestions... A. |
