I hope someone on list can suggest a source for a power steering pump.

My RV is a '73 Starcraft Starcruiser, with what I understood to be a M400 chassis. The P/S pump is shot and I have not been able to find one locally through the usual suspects. Although, I may not be asking for the right one.

I do know it is a Dodge 413 engine, and the power steering pump from a 440 D300 will not work.

Help!?

Thanks,

Jay

Welcome Jay, and don't let Knight's SCA-speak scare you off! [emoticon]

The easiest way to get the part you need is to take the old pump with you to the store and simply ask for a Dodge pump of the chassis year, then compare the new one to yours. Make sure to look at the mounting points and the pulley (if provided).

And, as a point of reference, the van based trucks are B series, pick-up truck series are D's.

Also, PS pumps almost never go bad. Are you sure it's the pump and not the gear?

Eric

She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!

Jay-

This is probably the best bet- when you walk in with the excised organ, as it were, freshly dripping fluids from the evisceration, this usually brings out the most educated of the Borg auto part drones. They, unlike their inexperienced counter parts, can exercise higher mental comparatory function apart from their computer network Collective for brief intervals... lol.

I have two NAPA guys that just cringe when I walk in with a slain trophy, thump it down on the counter, and in my best Okie Redneck drawl, say:

"Ah needs me one uv these witgheydydghits... Ah think this one is daid...or clabbered"

happy hunting!!

Jay,

A pump for the big block passenger car (400 from 73 Dodge Charger, for example) should fit, just don't confuse the parts drone by telling him it's for a van or motorhome.

Well spoken Budd!!!

Most folks manning parts counters today are like the Star Trek
Borg- in order to find anything they must access their collective
(a.k.a. com-pew-ter) to hazard a guess at anything. hee hee...

Welcome to our thread!!

Thanks for the welcome!!!

As a enthusiast for the American automotive underdogs, Mopar and AMC, ya gotta learn to outwit the trade school mis-educated sales drones ( aka: Chevy, Ford, Ricer, or insert prefferred expletive), so, you learn what fits other models as well.

My M/H needs the electrical timer for the electric choke on the Thermo-Quad Carb, so, I'm going to take the exact same unit from my 80 Dodge pickup (225 slant six) down to show them what I need.

But even then I'm not sure they'll find it.[emoticon]

Ah, Good Sir Knight,

LOL, I often am. Barefoot, that is.

I have since found 2 others to consider. An 89 Eldorado, 24ft. Private sale, with 62k miles on it. And although they say new tires, hot water heater and a "newer" fridge. I shall ask for reciepts.

In anycase, I have made myself quite a checklist from all the reading I've done, and that's the first thing I go through. If it gets through that, then I will consider my idiosyncrasies.... *grin*

Thank you for your kind help! And hopefully, I will have a new home soon. Or at least by June.

My dear Lady,

It is my great joy to be of help to you! My thoughts and best wishes go with you as well. Please feel welcome to share association with our quite motley crew here, and find among us friends, kindred spirits and good hearts of divers sort. All of us seek, in their own
measure, that space and sense of freedom accorded to those who embrace wanderlust in its fair seasons, whenever, where ever that is deemed by our hearts to be.

I fear my sword the Scythe of Stars, recalls almost more of battle than my weary spirit recalls of those most fair, with stars in their eyes, laughter and song on their lips, lovely of form, light of barefoot step who made my heart "step to the measure lightly" once again. I found a smile crossing my face at the very thought of the "unshodden" reference I made in greeting you, and prayed no offense be found in its playful offering.

For some of us the joy of seeing faces faraway, yet closer in heart than today, or the discovery of the new-oldness of the wonders of our Mother Earth, or the surcease of the sorrow, the respite, and nepenthe to the wounds of the Everyday and Inward War that encircles us, we find the acceptance, the joyous Peerage of Hearts here.

Indeed welcome! my Lady...

Ah, thank God!!!

I was afraid I was the only Irishman here that the Blarney Stone fell on . . .

Just teasing, Sir Knight. Please put away your sword . . .uh, Sir? Please? [emoticon]

Mark, I have a dear friend who is in the SCA out here in WI. His fair maiden is also involved. Get this, he's in his late 40's and she's barely 22!!! How the heck did he pull THAT off ESPECIALLY being in the SCA??? [emoticon] [emoticon] [emoticon]

He builds beautiful suits of armor, so nice that the museums commision him to build replicas!

To keep this on topic, HE is the ONLY guy I'll let repair any sheet metal parts I may need on the B300! Heck, I can hand him a 1" steel block, and in a few weeks, there would be a perfect fender that would require NO filler, and will fit better than the factory stamped pieces!!!!

OK, back to our regularly scheduled program...

Oh yes, must keep this on track, kind Lady. (Don't want to upset the Mods)

If you are seeking an old Dodge motorhome, or at least a C class, I shall offer you my assistance (whatever the hell that means!) in your locating of said rig. I have offered this to other members here, and I continue the offer. [emoticon]

Eric,

Yes, I would appreciate any help in locating a class C. I am going on the road with the ren faire/sca circuit, and my business, so a bit longer is better. At the moment I am looking at everything just to learn about them, and can narrow it from there....

You can pm me if that is easier.

Thank you.
