Hi!! I've got a 81 Establishment 26' that has a 78 Dodge M-400 (iirc) chassis with a 440 and only 24,000 miles! I got it in trade as partial payment for our mobilehome. The wee beastie was a near wreck from lack of maintenance and the dinette having been ripped out, but it made the trip from Moab UT to Canon City CO inspite of several unresolved problems (driveshafts not phased properly was the big item) and towed a fully loaded 6 X 12 U-haul over Monarch Pass 11,000+ feet. Gas mileage still needs a bit of work, but the airdam made from an old computer tower case makes her a lot more steady going down the road. Budd |

Hello again... It's been a long while. Last I conversed, I was getting ready to repair water damage in back of my unit. Well, the wife got laid up for a month, and then winter hit... so the MH is still in the drivway waiting for repair completions. I have the bunks out, the grey water tank out, and the tub/shower out. I need to replace the paneling in the walls and ceiling, and the floor in the rear. The grey water tank ad a huge split across the top, and leaked from the drain so that's being replaced, and my tub/shower was cracked from flexing due to the rotted floor underneath... so that's going to be replaced as well. I have the el cheapo fake wood floor to install as well once the rear is complete. I will still need to recover the sofa and chairs... ![]() I keep going in it ever few days to remind myself of the hole I have to dig myself out of. But on a brighter note, I went to the local "RV Show" over the weekend. Which did nothing by make me feel better about the MH. It was mostly trailers, and even at that... everything was either poorly & cheaply made, or more than we paid for our house. So that inspired me to keep plugging away on this guy once the temps get back above freezing. Anyone live in West MI and not have enough projects with their own old Dodge? lol. Anyway... now that I've caught up on the last 40 pages... I'll be here a little more frequently again. ![]() I've spend the winter getting two music projects off the ground... If you're curious... myspace.com/eyeteethmusic & myspace.com/theafterthoughtsband MORE PICS PEOPLE!!! I need redecorating inspiration. ![]() |

I even like the computer dam!!! Is that a bunk bed model? Also, just a small comment on your description, I believe it should be the MB400 and not the M-400. I think the M-400 was for the Class A chassis. Also, are you sure that it is a 1981 model? The picture you have on your profile page is of a 1977 or earlier Dodge chassis. In 1978 Dodge changed the sheet metal and front grille on their vans to a wider look. If the coach is a 1981 then the mfg apparently had a few older Dodges laying around!!! * This post was edited 02/25/08 12:47pm by RobinHoodRV * -jc 78 Robinhood 23' Class C 97 Geo Tracker Convertible 4x4 87 Jeep Comanche Chief 4x4 |

If the coach is a 1981 then the mfg apparently had a few older Dodges laying around!!! It is a an 81, according to the title, was bought used in California by my ex-neighbor in Moab, UT, who sold it to the folks I got it from . . . a twisted tale, huh? I had looked at buying it from Dottie in 2000, but didn't have the money. It was in mint condition then. ![]() The Mopar chassis ID plate says it's a 78 but doesn't list the model name, so I'm guessing and could be wrong. ![]() Yes, it's a bunk model, but we're thinking since it's just me and the boss, er, wife that we might gut the damaged interior and rebuild it to suit us better. ![]() The front end has some evidence of body work so the grille might be one that was just laying around the body shop. When we took our first trial run , we hit some stiff (30-40) headwinds and everytime the wind got under the front end, she got a bit spooky feeling as the front end seemed to float along. I had the cover from an old computer laying around, so I cut, pop-riveted and shaped it to fit flanges behind the bumper. The effect was amazing. Yeah, it's still a cushy ride, but the front doesn't feel like it's got plans for sub-orbital flight and even cornering is more stable. ![]() I've got to work on a miss in the 440 (I suspect it's either bad lifters or damaged camshaft) The Thermoquad carb is unwarped, but the fuel wells under the mainjets were leaking (epoxy time!), and I'm looking into a set of duals and possibly Tri-Y headers. ![]() Budd Pedestrians = 50,000 points Vehicles = 10,000 points insects = 1 point So many bugs, so little time . . . ![]() |

Ah, Good Sir Knight, LOL, I often am. Barefoot, that is. I fear, indeed, you are most right. The beast, I think, is not for me to resurrect. I shall leave that to another, braver, or more foolish than I. I have since found 2 others to consider. An 89 Eldorado, 24ft. Private sale, with 62k miles on it. And although they say new tires, hot water heater and a "newer" fridge. I shall ask for reciepts. The other is a dealer, 86 Jamboree Rally 26. Seems to have a bit less in it, but that 2 extra feet sounds nice. LOL, until I am driving it, I am sure. And it has a Onan 4000 watt generator. I seem to remember, maybe, an issue with those? Or, then again, it could have been all those Carb things... I think I've slightly over loaded my brain this weekend. In anycase, I have made myself quite a checklist from all the reading I've done, and that's the first thing I go through. If it gets through that, then I will consider my idiosyncrasies.... *grin* Thank you for your kind help! And hopefully, I will have a new home soon. Or at least by June. countessa |

I hope someone on list can suggest a source for a power steering pump. My RV is a '73 Starcraft Starcruiser, with what I understood to be a M400 chassis. The P/S pump is shot and I have not been able to find one locally through the usual suspects. Although, I may not be asking for the right one. I do know it is a Dodge 413 engine, and the power steering pump from a 440 D300 will not work. Help!? Thanks, Jay www.timeslicer.com www.flatfeecard.com www.buseng.com |

Thanks, Jay Jay, Be sure to order for the correct chassis year and be sure you have a 413 (look on the machined surface around the distributor). The only external difference between the "B" (361,383,400) engine blocks and the "RB" (early 383, 413, 426 Wedge, 440) engine blocks is the deck height which could affect the bracket designs. A pump for the big block passenger car (400 from 73 Dodge Charger, for example) should fit, just don't confuse the parts drone by telling him it's for a van or motorhome. I own mostly older Mopars and I run into this all the time. As a fact, my M/H, being an 81, is my "newest" vehicle. ![]() Budd |

Most folks manning parts counters today are like the Star Trek Borg- in order to find anything they must access their collective (a.k.a. com-pew-ter) to hazard a guess at anything. hee hee...
