8.75 work just fine with no clearance problems on the rear duals.
Ken

Watch your clearance on the front too ... check it with the steering turned all the way right and left ... lock to lock. (I picked up two used tires from a dealer and mounted them to check clearance before committing to a larger size.)

Been there, done that Griff... Lots of room lock to lock (well at least 3 inches). I've got an angle curb (6 inch rise at 12 inch length) and haven't "bumped" a tire yet getting in or out of the driveway.

I just have to get a tire to replace the right front that threw a tread 2 months ago (it's now the useless spare). Yep I'm procrastinating but I ain't going anywhere except to get the thing "smogged" this month so I can get the renewal done (should pass since it did on 7 cylinders last year). I may just stop at Pep Boys on the way home and get that damned tire now that the tax refund hit the checking account.

Is the savings on tires really enough to justify buying new rims? The tire dealers in my area still sell the 8.00 x 16.5 that are on my rig. I think the rate is around 180 bucks per. Just curious....

For me? YES!!!!! No 16.5's around here anymore, so they're special orders. That leads me to want 16" even more! If I'm out somewhere and have a tire failure, I want to be able to get a replacement anywhere, and on a moments notice...

She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!

Thanks all for the comments, I will keep my 16.5's for now as I have found them for around 130.00 at the local Les Schwab tire. If I had the split rims I would change as those things always spooked me, even when they were in the cage... thanks again ya'll are the best....

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

Split rims. I've got them.
Sounds like a disease....

Anyhow, the tires read "16" so what tire size does that translate into IF I can afford all 6? 19, 19.5, 22, what?

I assume your tire says something like 8.00 x 16 ... if so, your tires are probably way, way past due to be replaced.

16" rim means 16" tire ... you probably need the same rims I got for MLP ... I'd go with LT215/75R16, LT215/85R16, LT235/75R16, or LT235/85R16 size tires,

Get rid of 'em - most tire places won't mount/dismount tires on them any more.

That's only because they don't hire people who know how or they are not willing to train youngsters how. "I'm sorry but our insurance doesn't allow us to work on them" is an excuse not to, not an actual fact... "I'm sorry I don't have the equipment or trained people" might be. They're not hard to do... I was doing them in a gas station in the 70s with tire chains and the car hoist to act as the safety barrier in case the rim wasn't seated properly (didn't have a cage).

No, MasterBoondocker... The "Split bead" rim is what they are talking about and is commonly referred to as "split rim" (at least since the late 60's as I remember)... I don't remember ever seeing a "real" two-piece rim on a highway capable vehicle (Open pit cooper mine yes [emoticon]).

There's a fella out the road who'll do them. BUT... it's a flat in the middle of nowhere has me worried.

Finding 6 wheels that won't break the bank, that's another thing.

Griff, I got 2 rr tires good to go, 2 so-so (future spares), and 2 that hold air.

Budd wheels, split rims, split beads... what are the differences?
