Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Griff in Fairbanks on 10/05/07 04:35am
Welcome from me, OhioWanderer and ontheroad again!! Mark a.k.a. whiteknight
Ditto! Above all else, ask questions. If you don't get an answer, it's because we either aren't knowledgeable in that area or (as unbelieveable as it may be) don't have an opinion. Speaking of which, can anyone help Gary with his A/C problem? I've done exhausted the full extent of my knowledge in that area. (Hey, I grew up in northern Minnesota and now live in Alaska ... A/C to me is turning off the heat and opening the window.) On another note:
Has any one replaced there 440 distributor to a performance model that is a easy 2 or 3 wire hook up that does not use the mopar stock ignition wires,, if so what [brand and part number],, [electronic only],, [no points]......I think I am done with the stock one and now time to replace with one that's better and less wires...
I'm not sure if he got an answer and I'm curious what everybody's opnion is ... Currently, I'm planning on using the Mopar Performance electronic ignition upgrade on MLP but will entertain alternate suggestions. (The local speed shop seems to think I'd be better with something else.)

I'll ask the bf about the AC when I get home...

Ours came with the Dodge electronic ignition option, so I have no opinion, other than people with IHs say that Pertronix is a good drop-in to a points system on their trucks.

The dizzy question- MP is just fine and requires nothing to install. Pertronix is GREAT if you have points currently.

Another option is a GM style HEI modification to the Mopar dizzy. You'll have to search for it, but it's a slick set up!

The Mopar Performance is a drop-in/plug-in replacement for the points type distributor, which is why I've been looking at it. (I'll check out the Pertronix also now.)

The Mopar Performance package includes distributor, wiring harness, electronic control unit, ballast resistor, and installation instructions. Part number for the B big blocks (350/361/383/400) is P3690427, for the RB big block (413/426/440) is P3690428, and for the LA small block (273/318/340/360) is P3690426. The packages are $210 from Summit Racing. (B big block, RB big block, and LA small block)

Summit also provides a downloadable copy of the installation instructions. (Same instructions for all three packages.)

Hello! I'm a Dodge man at heart and have been racing Dodges for many years.

Hello, yourself, OW.
Huh, up in Newark you got that neat track, no wonder you had a Dodge drag truck....
Pretty neat, I had the Merc ('41 Cpe) up there a couple years ago.

Would love to meet other owners in the Ohio area.

I'm in eastern OH, about 40 miles west of Pittsburgh.

Been to Mohican Nat'l Forest yet? Not far from Loudonville.
I loved that place as a kid... It's one of the must-go spots for next spring.

These packaged kits ? .. used to be around 60 bux when they first came out - then for YEARS they were 99$ !

Now 210$ ! ..... just HOW do they justify that ? .. !

Yeah ... and gasoline used to be 30 cents a gallon ...

The Pertronix kits at Summit are $250, just to give a price comparison. (Yes, I looked them up as a possible alternative to the Mopar Performance kits.)

It was not 30 cents-per when those kits came out ..... it was probably well OVER double that.

I have purchased TWO of those kits on eBay the last year or so. The were NOS .. never used ... 80$ for a B engine one and 110$ for the RB.

Summit at 210$ ? ... what do the other outlets sell them for? ..... that does not sound like any "deal" at all.

My point was everything was cheaper 'way back when.' It's no use wishing for what was ... what's important, if you want to buy something, is today's price.

I don't buy from Summit (or Jeg's) ... among other things, their shipping policy is discriminatory towards military men and women stationed overseas.

I use Summit's web site for reference and their prices as a benchmark. Typically, I tell the owner of the local speed shop he's got a deal if he can get such-and-such delivered in Fairbanks, Alaska, at a price that's within 25% of Summit's price. (He usually can ... and sometimes beats Summit's prices.)

Not everyone has time to shop around or wait for something to pop up on eBay. For them, listing one possible source helps them save time. (And, listing the price gives them an idea how much they're gonna have to spend.) Others, who shop around, will feel good if they beat the price I listed.

Yippee!! Mopar Truck World just opened a new forum section for Mopar RVs. That's an entire section, not just a single thread, for us Mopar motorhome types.

A bit of history: MTW was where I started collecting info for working on MLP. One of the moderators, Jes - aka TruckQueenRed, spun off her own forum, Wild Mopar Truck Country (WMTC), which had a section for motorhomes.

Leeann and I had an informal contest on WMTC to see who could have the longest thread related to their motorhome projects. (We were both interested more in information and discussions than actually trying to lengthen the threads.)

WMTC shut down a few months ago ... Jes has a new husband and new baby and no longer had time for the forum ... which is when Leeann and I started annoying everyone here.

I'm not saying you should abandon this thread or rv.net ... but you will have more room over at MTW, in the form of your own thread(s). Also, MTW allows you to post pictures directly, without having to first upload them to another site like photobucket. (People may have to be forum members to view the pictures, depending on how Jeff has the forum configured.)

Leeann - nobody at MTW was watching the new account queue, which is why you weren't getting an activation email. MALAKI says "sorry" and he's fixed it.

Trish - do you want to start your Travco thread and put up a picture or should I?
