eyeteeth - check the ground wire on the RV's wiring harness - make sure it's grounded properly (I'd say the trailer, but if it works fine with your truck....).

I don't think it's that simple. I get continuity with ANY two of the four wires. I should not get any. Something is shorted somewhere, but finding it is going to be a real chore. What confuses me... is all the RV lights are just fine. I would think they'd all be messed up.

Hmmm...did you run this wiring harness or was it already installed? You might want to check where it's wired into your electrical system in the first place, then work backwards from there. We solved our trailer wiring issue by simply running an all-new harness with an additional ground wire, but we had to run all-new wires just about everywhere anyway. |

It was "pre installed"... I figure everything I need is relatively close by, and re-wiring it would probably be easier then trying to track down the problem. The problem... is I'm under a time crunch again... I need to head to Detroit tonight for a race tomorrow, and I need to take the trailer. I could stay home and fix it... but I won't need to pull the trailer again this year.... arrrgh! |

Hi all. 79 Sportsman w/440. I want to check my power steering, but havent gotten a manual yet. When I open the hood is it on the drivers side about a good arms length reach in and down about a foot or so back and down low? Hopefully that makes sense. thanks! ***1980 19' American Clipper 719F Luxur Van w/440*** ![]() |

Hey Cenote! Yup, pump is where you described! You'll need one of those long funnels to add fluid to it (measure it before you pour it in to keep from over-filling it). Eric She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow! ![]() |

Thanks 79pw! I have a big old kitchen syringe with a tube on the end. Could I suck the majority of the fluid out of the reservoir and then replace it with new or would that not be necessary unless the fluid is really bad? If its that bad I should just drain it maybe... |

Also, check the shaft for looseness and lack of grease ... a loose, out-of-balance, or out-of-sync driveshaft can cause weird harmonic noise. Griff, That's what I thought at first. My Dad had an old '59 school bus we converted when I was a kid....My brother reminded me we had that same noise. It turned out to the the driveshaft.(unbalanced) Either the PO just tolerated it, or something went wrong, he didn't want to repair. ![]() Thanks for the input! ![]() Gary Webb Phoenix, AZ ![]() |

Cenote, you'll be opening up a big ol' can of worms if you really want to replace the fluid. It's not difficult, it's MESSY! ![]() If I were to do it, I'd disconnect the return line at the pump housing (it's the one without all the fancy crimped on ends, it's a low pressure hose), disconnect the coil, then crank the engine until all the fluid is out. If you do this with the engine running, it'll spew all over the place! Refill your resevoir and start the engine. Oh yes, replace the coil wire and reconnect the hose first! and keep adding fluid in small amounts until the system is full to spec (as measured on the dip stick). You will need to turn the wheel full left and full right a few times to cycle the system to work the air out. Having your front end on jack stands is a real good idea for this. Have fun! |
