Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Trish Davis on 09/05/07 07:56pm

Woah, that is a NICE Chinook. You did good.

There's one up the road from me for sale, that guy ought to be ashamed.
Left rr floor has "sunk" (because of the sink... I am so funny, I kill me) and it's filthy. Like 3/4" of grease on the engine.

Gary, you spent your money smart.

Ok....
Eric needs a girlfriend with a sense of color-coordination. Obviously he has none himself, so... Nope, I'm betting Leeann does not have a manual for that, don't ask.

Oh weird... I have to become a bus bozo to get my Travco.
Trains run PGH into CHI and with a 6-hr layover there before going to Flint. Or take the Greyhound straight through. Dress nasty, carry w*&pons, put my cash in my shoe, take the bus. Eww.

Picking it up the 18th.

Umm...nope, no manual either for color-coordination OR for finding a girlfriend with same (sorry, Eric).

I do hope you mean bus hobo, not bozo, Trish [emoticon]

But no one you know can help you out on the trip somehow? I'm going to Detroit the 20th, but I'm flying this time or I'd offer a ride...

Gary: believe me, you shouldn't be jealous of my 'deal'!

Trust me on this...the bf's rebuilt the carb, I did the plugs/wires/coil/cap/rotor/voltage regulator/ignition module/ballast resistor, we did the vacuum lines, we had to put all 3 batteries (coach, house, genny) in. We had to completely re-wire everything in the house and add circuit breakers to both the 12v and 110v stuff. We had to hook the remote start switch up correctly for the generator. We had to replace a section of floor that had turned to sawdust. We had to replace one roof vent and still have another to do (dangit). Plumbing vent cap was replaced (original gone), as was the power cord surround thingy; we still have the range hood vent cover, water tank fill piece and lower fridge vent cover to replace. I had to clean, de-dent and paint the upper fridge vent cover. We had to de-rust and paint the front driver/passenger foot vent covers. We had to ground everything in sight because nothing was grounded properly (and wouldn't work). We had to put in a windshield washer system that didn't require foot power and a crusty old bag....we added 2 fuel tanks and have replaced the mechanical fuel pump with electric pumps and a fuel pressure regulator (and had to run wire and fuel line for the pumps/tanks). I still have to replace an eye bolt and spring on the front passenger-side wheel - it's part of the ancient steering stabilizer system. We replaced all 4 shocks and all 6 tires. Added a step (damn thing is high and no step at all - but we had one). We still have to replace a section of the wall in the bathroom. We still have a couple minor leaks on the roof. We still have to replace the paneling damaged by the major roof leaks it came with. We had to fix the front bunk (a PO really screwed it up badly). We had to rewire everything under the dash so we'd have power for the horns, power for the lights, power for everything. We still have to replace the shore power cord (though we have the replacement) because some idiot didn't put it away properly and it rested on the genny while it ran, melting sections of the insulation - then they 'fixed' it by using electrical tape...I still have to put in the wood laminate flooring (though I have it) and replace the disintegrating ceiling with the plywood that looks like beadboard (and replace any damaged ceiling insulation while we're up there), then paint that and the cabinets (really ugly woodgrain-colored plastic-fronted pressboard crap). Have to cut foam and have the covers sewed for the dinette (we've got nothing at all). Some dummy had switched from single to dual exhaust, but kept the sides separate - so we had to add the crossover pipe. Still have to replace the mufflers as they're the cheesiest and a bit loud for our poor rear passenger (she rode for 2 hours with her fingers in her ears, poor kid). We have to repair the bottom seam in the black water tank - PO's 'fix' isn't holding - but I have to pump it out first (pew).

Shall I continue? (please say no; my fingers hurt!) [emoticon]

Okay, okay...everything works. The furnace, stove, oven, sinks, toilet, shower, fridge, AC, water pump (though we replaced the old-style with a new computer-controlled model), water heater, converter/charger (we replaced the ancient one with a PD 9145 w/charge wizard so we wouldn't cook the AGM batteries) and a 1200w continuous/3200w peak inverter, interior lights...everything except the cruise control. But we got a complete system from that Winnie on craigslist, so I guess we'll just swap it out. It even came with a brake controller installed, but the race trailer doesn't have brakes (it's really light).

I still think you made out REALLY well [emoticon]

So this is where "Lead-Foot" Leeann is hanging out ... ;-)

Has she told everyone that hers is a short-short wheelbase hotrod with a biiiig engine?

Gary - I agree with Leeann ... you did well.

Aha! Griff found his way back home [emoticon]

Where's that promised email, btw??? Huh, huh, huh??? [emoticon]

Hey, you haven't told everyone now here that you own TWO motorhomes!

Email is 3/4 drafted ... keep getting sidetracked with work on motorhome #1

Actually, I was around here before MTW & WMTC ...

Just taking a break from welding ... and ignoring the dirty dishes ...

Yeah, yeah....type faster! How is MLP, btw?

Yep, I know - that's how I found WMTC, remember?

I'm really good at ignoring dirty dishes....really, really good [emoticon]

Frame is mostly welded back together ... getting really heavy to turn over to get at bottom/backside of welds.

Started priming many of the bolt on parts, such as radiator and tranny crossmembers.

Got a whole list of part numbers and sources for bushings, bolts, etc. for refurbishing springs.

Found a really cool aircleaner/plenum ... http://www.powerflowracing.com/spectre-prtdetail.asp?PD=1177 ... dual snorkles.

Would put up picture(s) is I could remember how to do it.

Gotta get back to welding ...

Oh, now that's just plain pretty. Did I tell you we finally got ours to work right? bf fixed the shift and carb linkages (they'd been bent) and one of the stupid pieces of junk had turned over the cover and beat it with a ball pein hammer - once we turned it back over and pounded it back right, it was fine. The filter fit fine and the cleaner fit the motor fine. We still want to run some ducting to the snorkles but haven't gotten that far. Wow - you're getting to the assembly stage. This is cool... You'll have to host the pics elsewhere and use the [color=darkblue]bracket ([) img bracket (]) [/color] tags....

I'm back ... done welding for tonight. (Excuse me while I swear a bit ... one of the older sets of welds didn't hold so I'm gonna have to take an extra day fixing that ... )

Yes, actually been assembling and disassembling all summer -- making sure everything fits properly and collecting new grade 8 bolts for everything.

Air cleaner/plenum uses standard 14" filter available everywhere ... fits my "use only standard parts so you never get stuck somewhere waiting for special order parts" policy. Twin 4" snorkles will allow me to set up a cold air intake. (Here comes the neat part ...) Gonna set up diverter gates in each side of the intake system ... when I'm cruising at highway speeds in clear weather the intake will be open to the front, giving me a ram-air effect (low-tech supercharger) ... in heavy rain or snow the intake will be through a baffled box (like a dorade box) that separates the rain/snow from the intake air. It'll work like the heater/defrost lever on standard automobile A/C systems.

For those who are wondering what we're talking about (because it's the continuation of a conversation started elsewhere), the "air intake search" started with:

Which lead to:

And ended with:

Which is on order from the local speed shop.

(The pictures worked ... good thing I've got my own domain to host the pictures.)

Now, is anybody interested on parts numbers, sources, etc. for refurbishing springs?
