Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Mark is a trouble maker! Mark is a trouble maker! (All fingers pointing to him)[emoticon]

Trish, new dizzy is a good way to go, but a Pertronix is better because there are no wiring harness mods. They work great! There is (I hope it's still there) an eBay store called something like Car Shop out of the Chicago area that sells the Pertronix kits for WAY LESS than anyone else, even after shipping! Super easy install, and if you actually do have a failure, toss your old points back in and keep rolling until you can get your replacement. I've used Pertronix several times and have NEVER had a problem with them. You'll notice the difference IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner! Best $60.00 you'll EVER spend on a vehicle!

Anyway, just a thought...

EDIT- Here they are http://stores.ebay.com/Car-Shop-Inc

Hey,

Thanks for all the replies. I figured they looked the same. The NEW tires were on it when I purchased thisthough and I have read they are becoming scarce, so probably will go with the 16's after I wear these out....[emoticon]

Thanks again to ya all...as always, these forums always have someone that knows the answer.......

Happy Camping.

Howdy to everyone, My name is Mikel and I just purchased an 18 foot Open Road RV (1970)as part of a lake lot deal.

As I understand it, the Open Road RVs are Dodge based, but I am having more trouble finding information on them than I expected. The old girl is in great shape, roof is solid, no water damage to speak of, solid sheet metal, no real rust.. but I can't find out much of anything on the internet about 1970 Open Road RVs and there is no owners manual with the camper..

I still need to put a battery in it and see if it runs, (the seller said it was started and ran last fall) it is currently semi-permanantly parked with concrete blocks under the frame for leveling, but for now that is a fine place for it while I am getting manuals together and such.

Anyone have any sources of info on Open Road RV's from the early '70's?? I would really like to find an owners manual and maybe a parts manual for the motor and drivetrain.

Thanks and nice to meet y'all..

Hey Mikel! Welcome!

I'd bet if your read through everything on the whole site (about 2.5 years worth of reading) you'll find what you're looking for! [emoticon] Sometimes eBay is a good source for manuals, you just have to keep at it.

Me? I can only help you with Dodge mechanical stuff, I know nothing about your rig as a house.

How long has it been sitting? Starting does not mean running and driving!

At any rate, welcome to the FUN of Dodge units! Feel free to ask darn near anything, we'll collectively mis-guide you for free! [emoticon]

i Mungo,

check this site out. He says he has or can get any manual you want. I order one for my 1977 Dodge 360 chassis Chinook.

I bought my Robinhood in May this year. When I drove it home (about 60 miles) I had trouble because of old gas. I got rid of that gas and replaced the fuel filter and it's been running great. I took it to the gas station the other day (total trip 4 miles)and it did fine going there, but on the way home it died on me when I slowed to make the turn into my driveway. I restarted it and drove it in, slowed, backed up and turned it, all was fine, then it died again just as I arrived in its parking spot. Any ideas on what I should be looking at? Some more info that might help. It is usually pretty easy to start. I don't need to give it gas or anything. As of late, the choke? is sticking when the engine is cold. My hubby has to open it and hold the flap closed and then it will start right up. Without doing that it won't start. After it's warmed up, I can turn it back on without any trouble.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Myrobinhoodry,

As a shadetree machanic, I would start with the floats in the carb. Sound like it's dieing upon turns? I had problems with my choke on my 360, had my mechanic set it for this area. But yours sounds like float levels.....

plus I would change the fuel pump front and at the rear and all filters too.

It died when I slowed to almost a stop, before I started to turn.
