Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Oh-Tay !! ..... HOW well do those baga "live" ? ....... and do they always have separate ports to fill each bag ? ...

Well, the RV made it through last week's monsoons without leaks, but not yesterday's [emoticon]

They're minor and we can fix 'em reasonably easily (and they only leak during SERIOUS downpours - and our fixes were only temporary in the first place - but it's still frustrating.

Oh, well. It can be fixed [emoticon]

The air bags are great. If I don't fill them up then the MH sways back and forth and leans in the corners. Putting in about 70psi increases ride height a little, elimates the swaying, and decreases the leaning when cornering. Makes a big difference. Too much pressure though and the ride suffers! [emoticon]

The factory installed them so each bag is filled independently from air valves (tire valves) mounted on the lip of the wheel well. This is so the air doesn't bleed from one bag to the other during cornering and making things worse. An air compressor can be installed that will allow the bags to be filled automatically and controlled from the dash.

These are the original bags which were installed new in 1978 so they seem to good longevity.

I just bought a 1977 Dodge 360 chassis, Chinook RV. Never really considered this fact about the spare fitting both front and back?

This one looks like it will, but is there a way to find out without trying it on for size? [emoticon] These things weigh in about 100lbs...LOL. Oh my aching Back.....

I have NEW 16.5's all the way around, but that don't mean I won't have a flat. I have roadside assistance, but could starve to death waiting on them.....[emoticon]

Any help would be appreciated.

Gary, don't be confused by my earlier posts. By 1977, Dodge was using the same wheels front and rear. My 1973 uses a regular 3/4 ton type front axel, and a 1ton dually in the rear. That's why I need two different types of wheels.

And yes, they're heavy![emoticon]

Leeann, that's too bad about the leaks! Bet you're glad you didn't do teh laminate flooring yet, aren't you? You'll get it all sorted out!

Leeann, will tarping it help? Oh... you already did that.

Weather.com says more is on the way, Eric, beware.
Leeann's safe from this round though.

Gary, when you need new tires, don't replace the 16.5s, just get new (used) 16 rims and run them. Perfectly fine /safe plus lots cheaper.

Found a 66 Travco in Sandusky Oh, lots closer.
Guy's real honest, too. We'll see.

The spare should fit both front & back on your '77 - it's easy to tell, though. The rims are obviously different when they don't fit both front & rear.

Here's a website with a rebuild of a '78 Dodge chassis Chinook - he's got a lot of good pics and info:

Yeah, we'll be putting a tarp on shortly - we got taken a little by surprise on the ferocity of Saturday's storm (ooooops). First we're going to let it dry out a bit.

The leaks weren't bad at all - essentially contained by the hideous ceiling material that we're going to replace anyway, so we cut a little hole in it and put a bucket below. But yes, I'm very glad we haven't done either the laminate or the ceiling plywood yet [emoticon]

Oh, a '66 Travco would be awesome, Trish! I hope it's in the shape you're expecting...what length is it?

Great news Trish! As I told you, I'm having my doubts about this guy up north... Just keep me posted!

The weather said this morning today was supposed to be a perfect summer day, sunny, high around 80°. Well, it's storming again, and my rig is sitting at home with the roof vents open, all the windows open, and I just got my re-done cushions back Saturday! Darn it anyway!!!!!!!

Leeann, nothing a big ol' pail of smuck can't fix! Black Jack to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!!! (OK, not really, do it right!). [emoticon]

27ft, found on Cleveland craigslist.
Fella was decent enough to tell me up front it has discharge issues --you know it, Eric!-- out of that "built-in battery charger" Dodge was so fond of.

1900 or swap for something...Wonder if he wants a boat and 2 outboards.

So old it's got solid lifters!
But not old enough it has a push button transmission.

Longer than I'd like, but hey.

Oh hey, Eric... there're 4 brand new stainless 16.5 wheel covers on Detroit craigslist for 125. Yes, dear... Leeann and I want you to pimp your ride.

Yes, we do [emoticon]

And Trish - most of the Travcos were 27ft. Seems to be the standard, anyway. Battery discharge is standard - upgrade your converter/charger to something modern and install a cutoff switch and you'll be fine (that's what I did: PD 9145 with Charge Wizard and cutoff switches for each battery).

This is what the bf made:

We have a coach, house, and generator battery. It seemed silly not to put an AGM battery in the generator compartment and use it for juice when needed alongside the house battery. So this is how we switch them. The circuit breakers are for the 12v stuff - all our 12v stuff was just tied together with wire nuts, no breakers, no fuses. We also put in a 110v breaker panel box, again because there weren't any breakers or fuses except on the generator stuff.

And the converter/charger:
