Rear passenger brake is done! I worked until midnight last night getting it put back together. The new oil seal went in smoothly, no issues at all. I tightened the nut, until I felt slight drag and then backed it off a tick, added the star washer and lock nut. Still waiting on the driver side ACDelco wheel cylinder, which is still in Philadelphia, according to USPS. This is what I get for trying to find my parts at the cheapest possible price, without sacrificing quality.
I did quite a bit of research on whether to grease or not to grease the bearings...it's actually quite entertaining to read the arguments that erupt over this subject. In the end, I opted to NOT grease the bearings; I'll follow the Spicer/Dana manual and tilt the axle to one side for a minute and let the hub fill with oil, and then do the other side the same way, then top the diff off with oil.
On a funnier side, that follows my many online purchase trials and tribulations, I went to Home Depot to buy a 1/4" NPT to 3/8" NPT adapter, so that I can install my 1/2" heater pipe.
I then ripped into my new Dayco heater hose packages, which I bought on eBay from PepBoys. The 1/2" hose installed perfectly on the brand new RobertShaw water valve ($125). I then opened the 5/8" hose package and attempted to install it from the water valve to the bottom of the heater core and....it didn't fit.
My first thought was, "Crud, I have 3/4" fittings." So I grabbed my micrometer and checked the size....5/8"....now I'm scratching my head, so I take a look at the hose and it says 1/2". Apparently the Dayco guy in charge of packaging was getting ready to go home for the day or was jonesing for a smoke break, so he put 1/2" hose in a 5/8" bag.
What this has taught me is that, while I may find cheaper prices online, instead of buying local, getting the right part is a total crapshoot. I'm done buying online.
The fun just never ends.

I am forced to move and cannot take my precious 1978 Dodge (B300 Tradesman, 440. with a bubble top, maxi-van, camper by AM Enterprises) with me. I have been trying to get it to pass smog and then sell it but am having difficulty with with the smogging thing so far. brought it in twice and once it didn't pass the visual so they wouldn't put it on machine, then the idle was set too high so they would not put it on the machine. Mechanic coming tomorrow.
I am in the Sacramento area if anyone is interested. you can contact me at [email protected].

I may gripe and complain, even sometimes want to blow it up, but at the end of the day there’s something really satisfying about knowing that I built this. No, it’s not done, but it’s a heck of a lot closer to being done than what it was last month.

In California 1974 and earlier are exempt from smog certification. Calif had promised differently, but ........
I would not be interested in trying to ship the 78 Dodge class B, ...way too much involved.

The front wheel hub/stud debacle is slowly fading in my rear view mirror. I went to NAPA yesterday and spent the better part of an hour with my buddy, who is the manager there, looking through the catalog for the right wheel stud...easier said than done.
Leeann, I know you said that Dorman makes the stud but, if they still do, you must have a different front wheel setup than mine; my wheel stud is NLA. A few days ago we ordered what we thought was the correct stud, only to find out it looked nothing like mine. It took a lot of research to find out that it is obsolete.
I was, however, lucky enough to find a guy on eBay who had a box of those NLA studs for sale, so I snagged it up. The downside is that the box will not arrive until July 23rd, so I'm a bit dead in the water. While I was at NAPA, I picked up a new front lug nut, two front brake hoses and a rear driver side wheel cylinder.
When I got home the other day I decided to focus on finishing the engine compartment and giving our motorhome its face back. By 10:45 I was finished, including installing the NOS grille turn signal lenses and gaskets....much better than the old, warped and cracked units that were in there. See the above pic.

I was, however, lucky enough to find a guy on eBay who had a box of five studs for sale, so I snagged it up. Part for the answer is there in the picture -- 641-3140 -- try parts interchange.
Also, 5/8-18 x 2-9/32"
Maybe Dorman 610-203 ... a bit (1/4") longer at 2-17/32" (I didn't look farther for other possibilities.)
Dorman wheel studs ... look through the full list for those dimensions.
