Yeah but it tows in O/D. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Potential for expensive repairs is the biggest reason I went back to gas ten years ago. The worst thing that's happened as a result is a downshift.

Maybe a really good aftermarket filter and water seperator would save you some money!

I feel for you I replaced 8 one time at 1800 parts price and after that I am really attentive to them. I try to get fresh fuel and I use additives in each tankful for long life.

I have a 2006 GMC HD Gas burner. It has the Allison transmission, is a four door crew cab, and has 10-ply 16" tires on it. I live in Alabama and did not know it until I went to purchase a tag for it that it was considered a "special tag" truck because of its weight and capacity. According to the DMV it weighs over 8,000 lbs. so I had to buy a more expensive tag. I have a 35 ft. Pilgrim bumper pull with 2 slides and it pulls it like it is not even back there. I also own a construction company and work it a good bit. I have put a pallet of concrete in the back of it with tool boxes and calculated the weight and had over 4100 lbs. in the bed! It is the only time I have ever seen that truck squat. I have the 6.0 not the V-10 gas burner. I am really wanting to upgrade to a 5th wheel toy hauler but am wanting input on if I will have trouble hauling a 38 to 40 ft. toy hauler. I am like the other gentleman, the biggest problem I have is that the title to my truck and trailer are in my gun vault! Can I pull the bigger 5th wheels or do I need to upgrade to a dually?

You may have got ripped off at DMV. Your 2006 2500hd weighs about 7000lbs. The GVWR is over 8000lbs, that's what they usually use.
Are you sure you have an Allison transmission? Never seen them paired with the 6.0. They were paired with the 8.1 (V8 not V10 ) and Duramax.
The gas diesel debate is like the song that never ends. A toy hauler that size, and loaded, in all likelihood needs a diesel DRW.

First off...agreed that in all likelihood you do not have an Allison or your engine is an 8.1 L..although stranger things have indeed happened.
Secondly, if you are looking at pulling any kind of a 5th wheel with a2500...10,000 max weight loaded is about your limit. And even at that you will be over on pin weight. Anything bigger..you need a dually.
I would kindly suggest you take a good look at the sticker inside your drivers door and see what you are legally allowed to load up in your bed...you will find it ain't a lot. And no number of helper springs, airbags etc will change those numbers..its to do with the tire ratings at their maximum allowable weight rating.
As for the Actual weight of a 2500: I have a Titan Tank (52 Gal), plus a 30 gallon slip under my full toolbox and a steel front bumper...I weighed in with full fuel tanks, the dog n me inside at 7950lbs.
I too think you got hosed on your tag.
You have a 35 ft BUMPER PULL..?? Holy geez bye...how the heck do you even park that thing & where...?? With the A-frame up front you have got to be near 40' and drooping on the rear axle I'm guessing..?

WOW. I would add this: FILTER FILTER and FILTER some more...your fuel.
AirDog/FASS or a pair of Kennedy lift pumps with a Nictane filter would do wonders for those injectors.
Not sure if you have or don't have anything of the sort..but diesel is dirty fuel, the single OEM filter does not, in my opinion do enough filtering of the fuel nor does it removed entrained air from fuel being sent to the cp3.
I run a FASS, then to the OEM and finally a post OEM filter set up by Stanadyne (Fuel Manager), with a 2mU filter. Granted its an LBZ...but even an LB7 with a proper set of injectors, you should easily be getting 250k on a set...not 30k.
